First Sled.
Hey guys, I live in Minnesota and so I'm looking for a sled for this upcoming winter, and since I don't know alot about sleds, I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I'm looking for a sport-sled, not utility or touring, etc.
I'm 15, have only had experience on a 120 kitty kat, but I race motocross on 250f's and have experienced power coming from Yamaha Raptor 700's and such to give you an idea on what I can handle.
I'm looking for something with power. A 600 or bigger.
I'm about 5'8'', 130lbs.
I like Arctic Cats, but I don't really care what kind you guys recommend.
Let me know what you guys have for ideas.

A Zr/ZL 500 or 600 would be a best bet for you as a first sled. Neither is to big and powerful as to be overwhelming, have great handling, and are easily gotten at a reasonable price.

I've got an 800 triple, point and shoot sled. heavy, and not as nimble in the twisties as a twin would be.

My suggestion is to do what I'm doing, find a 600 of whatever brand your friends can give you the most help with, make sure it's in solid shape, meaning have a friend who knows what the inside of a clutch looks like take a look, and check the running gear, electrical, motor, chaincase, body, steering, shocks, etc. Look for body/frame repair, and saggy running boards, signs of hard riding/jumping. Ride it for a winter and see if it's a good match. Ride with your friends and swap sleds to see how different ones ride. Then you can make a decision based on your own experiences. I went with a 98 ZR600 EFI, bought up here at Haydays for $1700. Hope to see you out there!

If you can find a firecat F7 for a good price I'd pick one up.

A couple of good ideas here! I agree with the ZL or ZR 5 or 600, great sleds and plenty of them. Also avalible and in expencive! Your first sled is likly gonna get wrecked, also another good point, a smaller more manageable machine could save your pocket book and maybe your life! Another good point brought up is take someone with you that knows sleds, also talk to the others you will be riding with, and ofcourse NEVER ride alone! It gets wicked cold out where we go at 2 in the morning!!! Good luck and be smart Enjoy! Oh and welcome to the snow show!
