bigger carbs on xlt

is there any upside to replacing the 34 mm with 38mm will i gain anything or has anyone done this

You can't just put more fuel to the engine without giving it a place to go! You need larger exhaust, manifolds, and most of the time you need to bore the cylinders too. Just swapping them will flood it out. Then you will need to rejet it so small you'll equal the size of the original carb size.

Like SEG said. The 34's are designed to work with the velocity of the airflow in stock form. If you go to 38's, the air velocity through the carbs slows down substantially; you have to increase the airflow in and out to gain any real benefits. Slower airflow can result in an engine that is hard to tune and may be much less efficient.
