Flagstaff, Arizona
alright, heres the deal....ive been presented with a business opportunity to move to phoenix. while talking with some of the guys, they say flagstaff (about 2 hrs north of phoenix)receives snow, and is at 7000' above sea level.
after searching the net, i cant find out "exactly" how much snow they get, if the ground freezes in the mountains, or if there is any good snowmobile riding in general. i'd assume it would be all mountain riding, so this is why i was concerned with snow depth.
the only statistic ive found is that the city of flagstaff receives between 100"-120" of snowfall annually. this doesnt seem like much compared to da UP which gets 250" a year...but then again, i'm not sure if they dont publish the actuall snowfall which occurs outside the city in the mountains.
any help would be appreciated.

I don't think they bother with what falls in the mountains in their listing. Look at an area that is actually in the mountains.

thanks guys
RJ - both areas that ive researched are in the mountains, or on the "ridge".
well, what i did was search for snowmobile dealers and renters...i called a few at my lunch hour. most of the better sledding is just over the border in duck creek village, utah. so from phoenix to duck creek is about 7 hrs...so basically the same distance i already travel to ride in da UP. the only major problem is getting around the big hole in the earth, aka, the grand canyon.
from what ive been told the sledding is not as good as what im used to. and i'm not sure what to expect. funny thing was no one could say "this is the best spot to ride or go to"...it was more or less "well, when we get snow its pretty good."
the only thing i havent really looked into was cali. im not sure what they have to offer either.

Are you planning this job offer around weather you have SNOW or not? Your a true snowmobiler! Sounds like you might have to travel a bit for some riding time.
Good luck and keep us posted.

rida - well...<hahha>...sort of...after a little more research, the duck creek village area of southern Utah is the "mecca" of snowmobiling for southern UT. obviously i can go to salt lake city, but i dont want to drive 15 hrs to ride. but dont worry, when we plan the MI ride, I'll fly right up for that, wouldnt miss that.
work offers incentive packages to relocate to work in different offices. our company doesnt say "pack your bags your moving to <blank>", its more like "hey we have a project, and we need managers, you interested?". they have a tendency to gear these incentives to younger managers who dont have families, or "ties" to hold them back. so it is amost like a golden goose.
I figure if i'm going to move, i better find stuff that will keep me occupied, or things that are interesting to do. so i looked up places to sled. i also looked at off road parks, or national parks/forrests/deserts to do a little two-tracking, hiking, or camping.

I'll tell ya now that Phoenix is hot as crap in the summer. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. There is some good riding in Az but the snow is absolutely unpredictable. It can snow 3ft at a time but may be gone within a few days. All of the good riding is in Utah from what I hear. I personally have not headed up there but most riders here generally do because the snow stays a little longer up there. If you ride in AZ, you ride when it snows even if it's the middle of the week. Last year was some pretty good snow but the year before, I rode once. Years ago it snowed a lot but it's been poor the last 10 or so years. Rumor has it that it's making a turn for more precipitation again. I know I'm hoping for the best....
