buying a sled on-line?

Has anybody bought a snowmobile on-line (via the Internet like Ebay)?

Just curious, I've seen some good deals on eBay for example, but not sure how safe it is or should I even consider it?

I've both bought and sold on eBay. Their feedback is the best way to know how good a person is. Only look at sleds with a users feedback score of 100% if you can. Also the higher the feedback number, the better they are also. If you pay, use PayPal or a postal money order. Both have a way to get your money back in case of fraud.

i bought my artic cat on ebay for 600 bucks, nothing wrong with it. I just got it in the off season. I had to drive 3 hours one way to get it, but it was a steal.

I'm in California. There are not a lot used sleds here to choose from, that's why I'm forced to look elsewhere and on-line.

What about shipping? How do you handle the shipping of the sled from the seller? How much is the typical shipping charge?

Are there other places to look other than eBay?

That's interesting, I'm in Oregon and I bid on my 2005 RMK and eventually purchased it from a guy in California. One good place to look for sleds on the west coast is the swap meet section of SnoWest.com. Most of the users are in the west with sleds for sale in Oregon, Washington, California, and Nevada. If you are willing to drive to get it, there are good deals out there. Shipping can make a good price into something not so good.

What kind of sled are you looking for? I had a buddy that found two 800 RMK's in the Reno/Sparks area for good prices, he ended up getting a sled locally from a friend in the family.

The shipping cost is what worries me... and of course not able to see the machine itself.

I moved from Michigan where there are tons of used sleds for sale, even in the Summer. Here is California, it's difficult to even find a snowmobile dealer!

I'll checkout snowest.com.. thanks!

Most sleds are pickup only, but I'd say a few hundred bucks will ship it for you.
