they are good sleds, pretty fast for a 98, 3700 miles on it is't too bad really, and to make it faster your cheapest option would be to set up the clutches and possibly gearing.

I've heard they like to use a lot of fuel.

A friend of mine just found two '98 Polarises new in the crate. They were two different models. I can't remember which was which, but one of them was a 600 (triple?). He paid 2000 for one and 1800 for the other.

The one you are looking at is a decade old and used. It might pay for you to dicker a bit. Look them over for wear on the track, condition of the belt, slide wear, etc. Have you got a friend that knows sleds that could go look it over with you?

If you put in a general locale - like central Minnesotea or whatever - you might get one of the guys on this board to go look with you.

My friend and I are both Polaris fans. You will get others that have brand loyalty for the other brands as well. It seems that most Polarises don't need a lot of fixing as long as you don't hit something.

Any of you guys that wrench on them for a living have any opinions.

(My Storm is supposed to be a time bomb waiting to blow. The 800 triples were a bit problem prone, but so far so good with mine - knock on wood).

Seems strange that you know nothing about the sled, but yet, you want it to go faster. Want to go faster than a 600?, then buy a 700 & save yourself the headache!! JMO

thanxs guys for the info.i just this past summer moved from florida to michigan so i dont really have a clue on which sleds are quick or not.i bought a 2000 indy 500 and a 98 mxz 583 over the summer, bolth had about 1200 miles on them.i liked the way the indy rode but it was not quick.the mxz was faster top end but was very unstable.i am not looking to go over 100 mph but i would like to get to 80 in a very short time lol.in florida i did nothin but drag raced so i am kind of a speed junky.i guess i got used to 1.34 60ft times in my mustang

The 600 XC is a good runner. They are a well built sled and with proper periodic maintainence, will serve you well. The twins are the better on gas and are practically bullet proof.

the 600 xc is a pretty quick sled. my buddy has one, its a couple years newer then the one your looking at but it's loaded with miles. 3700 miles isnt that bad for $1400. i paid $1400 for mine and it had 5400. but i ride a xlt. its a good trail sled and it will most likely get you up to 80 unless it's got some issues. and yeah like indian, buy a 700 and save some time if you want a faster sled.

I rode an '01 XC Edge 600 this weekend, and it had almost 6500 miles on it, and it's never given the owner any problems. Plenty quick for me.
