Best river sled?
I have really been loving my F7, but lately we have been doing a lot of river riding, and the 'cat doesn't really shine there. It got me to wondering - what would be the best sled to set up just for river running? Any input would be appreciated.

No, I'm talking about riding on the frozen rivers. Pretty fast riding, and cornering on ice. I need something kind of low slung and with pretty good ski weight. Hope that clears things up.

Got studs? Try lowering your preload? Need more ski weight? shorten your limiter straps!
I'm still lost on river riding? Is that like lake racing a
bunch of S turns?

Pretty much, yeah. It's a lot of twists and turns, some great scenery, ans some wicked straightaways. I'll try some of the things you brought up. Thanks!

The old polaris wedge sleds used to do really well in ice oval racing. Also a yamaha srx might work well due to the low suspension and gobs of power. I agree with you that my f7 also isn't set up the best for riding the rivers, but with some suspension adjustments I don't see why it couldn't be. Another thing is if you are having problems with it being kinda tippy, you could try a 4 wheel kit in the rear. I put one on and it helped a noticable amount. Also, try some 8 or 10" carbides for the extra turning power.

Why dont you like the F7 in the twistys? You need to use your body more then if you dont like it.. Also get some C&A skis, night and day difference over the stock skis..

It's not that the F7 isn't good in twisties, it's that it isn't the greatest on ice the way it's set up. I've ridden a lot of miles and I know how to lean when turning, I'm just looking for more advantages on the ice.

Then what do you mean not the greatest on the ice? What is your setup?

yamaha srx
my buddy drives a yanaha srx and it rocks, very low ultra nimble , imo the best ( easy) handling sled i ever rode. my riding partners love swapping sleds 04 700 firecat , 05 renegade sdi , 04 yami srx tripple . its not the best trail ride , but ditches, tight turns, ice hes gone and half a smoke into it buy the time we get to him

Hey guys,
Well i have a Yamaha SRX 600 =)
Im alos almost just a river rider!
Been riding now with my friend that has a
Polaris XC 500 SP -2000 ( Man that Polaris is fast)!
There is not so much snow on the ice so u can not get top speed
But the Polaris did get past me
So what would my advice be?
Buy a Polaris XC?

Glare ice is THE FASTEST place you can find!! Stud up and put on 8" carbide and rock on!!
The only thing I could come up with that could be better on a river might be a ZR900? And only a little maybe? there is that weight thing!

Yeah, I need to pony up some cash and put some GOOD carbides on. I looked and the ones I have on now are looking pretty bad. Ditch riding and crossing a road every mile takes it's toll on carbides!!

go for a Thundercat if you want something to use purly on frozen stuff and keep it cat. Or an MX-Z (newer style)will handle well and rock your socks on the straights.
