Main and Pilot Jets?

Do they have to matched? Can you increase the main jet size without adjusting the pilot?

Up here, the only time we change pilot jets would be if your making major jetting change to your main jets, like moving your carbs to a different engine.

The pilot jet controls low end response on very small throttle openings.

yes you can change mains and not the pilots. the only thing the pilots are for is idle, and you can also adjust your air/fuel screw and adjust it.

The guy I bought the sled from went down a size on both jets because he was told that the factory setup is conservative and that going down a size wouldn't hurt and give a little more performance. I had really cold weather last weekend and ended up switching them both back to stock . My problem was low speed throttle response and takeoff. Just wondering if I can got back down a size on the main jet and leave the pilot at stock.
