Dont Try This At Home

Sat We Rode Out A Little Too Far From Home. Mich U.p. Was 0-10 Below. Had To Ride 5 Hours Home After Dark In That Frigid Mess. Not Fun, Be Smart, In Those Temps Dont Paint Yourself In A Corner Like We Did.

Dressing properly, and planning for disaster should be part of your plan every time you ride. It really sucks to ride when you're feeling the cold. I went for a ride last Monday. Like you; went a little farther than planned. Ended up in a VERY windy place, with -20 wind chills standing still! Fortunately I had brought a couple extra pairs of gloves... so I could "donate" to the guy who just had normal ski gloves. Got a little worried about frost bite up there for the ones not dressed warm enough. Needless to say; we ski-daddled out of there pretty quick.

I always carry stuff to help with an unexpected overnight stay... survival blankets, tree saw, lighters and matches, rope, extra hat, extra gloves, etc.. You never know when you (or someone else) will need it, and it's too late to find out *after* you're 20 miles from civilization and a working cell phone tower.

I got alittle frostbite just three weeks ago in the UP of Michigan on my face. Sucked, especially since it was within the first ten minutes of riding. Face has cleared up since, but that was my second time. I started out with the wrong helmet first, then wrong mask in it too. Since I had my original breath deflector along I was able to use it and all was better. Wish I would had brought my full face though.

I always dress too warmly, then shed pieces and store them for when I need them later. I also carry those little hand warmer packs wit hmy stuff.

We stayed in a cabin near the North Store/Redz Wolf Inn. Friday morning, we headed down to Newberry to catch 45 to Taquamenan falls.Went to the brewery to eat. When we came out it was a complete white out.Seemed that the temps dropped about 15 degrees. We were going to ride trail 8 to Grand Marais but took shortcut cr414 instead.Getting to cold to play around so we bee-lined it back to the cabin. It got very windy and cold very quick.Kind of scary there were NO sled tracks on CR414. Just 10 inches of powder.Boy was that a cold trip. My heated shield quit workin too.
