I did it again

Well now that I have to find parts I have found out I have bought another change over year it seems that 98 xlt classics w/ xtra 12 were a sled set all thier own. I thought I had gotten a sled that had many years of the same model. Easy to find parts. turns out if you actually look for 98 it is missing from most every after market dealer. I can not eaven find a service manual for it without getting the full multi year and sled manual the shops use for several hundred bucks.

If anybody has a lead on anything for this sled please let me know. The local dealer would not eaven sell me photocopies of the stuff pertaining to this sled from the manual. I did finaly get an owners manual.

The only changes on your sled from 97 to 98 were graphics. The chassie is the evolved, they were from 95-98 model years and all parts interchange( windshields, body panels, steering and suspension parts, skis, etc). The engine is an Xtra lite triple which yours uses, parts for 97-2000 are the same with the exception of the carbs, and clutch calibrations. You should not have any trouble finding parts for that sled. As far as a service manual goes, the only one I'm aware of is the factory manual and its pricy. I bought the complete set from 93-2002 and have around 500 invested. In 2000 the started putting a couple models per manual and brought the price down to around 40-50 bucks apiece.

I agree, neither cheap or a fool. When you do your own work at least you know how it was done. I've seen so many cobble jobs come to me that have been to the dealer first. They get them in and out so fast that some times they overlook the cause of the problem, throw a few parts at it and send it out just to have it come back the next day, with a repeat problem. And they are good at making you beleive there was another cause the 2nd time so they can get you to pay for the repair again. Once I purchase a sled It never goes back to the dealer for anything, Except recalls, not even for warrenty repairs. I don't trust the unexperenced techs at the Polaris shops we have around here.

Around here the AC and Yammi dealers are both terrible. My son took his sled to the Yammi dealer, $400 later, they told him his labyrinth seal needed to be replaced. It turns out it needed the fuel pump kitted. I had a similar botched diagnosis by the AC dealer which cost me $250 for fixing something that wasn't the problem.

Yes it is. But they will never get a dime of mine, ever.

actually i wasn`t complaining about rip offs.everything you guy`s said is usually true. my polaris dealer is a con. just went to cat this year since the jag years ago and drive almost three hours to get there. that being said the dealer is great recommend him any day. the mechanic is just like you and me ( he likes me to call and tell him how the sled runs after i mess around with things cause noone relly has a book on them cause they are so new). that being said i still do the work myself just so you know what you did. i hate going for a long ride not really sure . cause like BBK said repeat customers is what the dealers live for
