'94 arctic cat PLEASE HELP!
I have a '94 Arctic Cat 440 Jag Special. Whats so special about it? You tell me. So I got this sled for free off a friend who moved, It had been missing a carb and throttle cable since somone at the bar stole them 2 or 3 years ago. Well anyways I bought a couple of carbs off a 85 or so Cat that were the same along with the trottle cable. When disasembled by my frends Dad who knows enough, but not everything he said they appeared to be in damn nice shape. We got the lines and eveything cleared out and actually got it runnig within 2 hours the pipe had some oil residue comming throught it and one cylynder was really having a hard time firing it sounded like a yamahaa blaster it had a rich sound but the track was not getting enought power to move we checked for spark, although the plugs looked brand new, im buying a couple tonight and we will se what that does. I fiugure its somthing more than that though mabey a carb problem? Ive tryed to give as much info as posible any suggestions?

Make sure you are giving yourself the greatest opportunity for success.........begin with fresh gas & fresh plugs. I would expect jetting would not be correct, since carbs came from a different engine. I would suggest you pull the pipe off & try to see how the piston/cylinders look by looking through the header. Good Luck!

Also, the same carbs are used in many different applications. The pilot jet, jet needle/needle jet, and slide cutout may not be the right ones for your application. Check the numbers against what came on the Jag to make sure.
Factory would have been
Jet needle: 6DH7-4
Needle Jet: P4(166)
Slide cutaway: 3.0
Stock main jet: 300
Stock pilot jet: 30
Hope that helps! Like IRS said.. new gas, new plugs can also make all the difference!

OK, this is what we figured out today. The exaust was plugged, after disconnecting it it ran much better but it acts as if the choke was stuck on, it gets more fuel in one carb than the other, if i get the original carbs would i be better off ,even if they are rougher in shape ? adn I did use fresh gas and plug, don't worry haha thanks for the help so far I hope this info will help more

Probably the one that is not getting fuel is crudded up and needs cleaning.
Also, do not run the engine for an extended period without any exhaust on it as the lack of back pressure is not good for the engine (burn pistons).

Tear down the carbs and check them with what BC Dan gave you! If something is different just order that jet! The cutaway would likely be close? the pilots might too but the needle , needle jet , and main need to be right.Clear out the exhaust and also check the air box too!

85 carbs on 94 sled
As stated by other people make sure you change the jetting and it is exactly what suppose to be in the sled. Also needle settings. Once that is done you should probably have the carbs synchronized(only if it has dual carbs).
Don't run the sled without the exhaust on especially not knowing if the jetting is right. You may burn a piston. A couple of minutes should be ok as long as you do not rev it.
Since you got the sled for free I would put a new carb on it that is right or find a used exact replacement. Save you a ton of work. Good luck.

Regardless of what year if you can find a used carb, clean it and put the corect jets in it. A used carb is about $15-20 a new carb is like $150-200! And it will need the same jetting!

Well if it ran ok then nothing perhaps a fuel pump? Did you chwck your plugs did you get too much fuel and foul them> Are you still getting spark? What have you got for a carb and jetting?
