Synthetic Oil, Low Smoke??

Just picked up a a 1997 Arctic Cat EXT 580 EFI.

Runs great, but seems a little smokey. I don't know what type of oil the previous owner ran, but I was considering switching over to a synthetic oil to reduce smoke.
I read up on some oils and they talked about power valves, does anyone know if my sled has power valves? Sled appears to be completely stock.

Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.

Gas might be going a bit bad. Continue to run it and see what happens.

Was it being stored before you got it?

Yes, I don't think it had been ran much this season. I went through about 1 tank of gas then added some new gas and it didn't seem to make a difference.

That sled doesn't have power valves you can use a 50:1 mix

Make sure the oiler is adjusted properly, there are indexing marks on the oil pump and the arm... synthetics do smoke less, the 2 zr 580's I had smoked a LOT until I switched to more expensive oil...

So I guess that any of the so called "premium" synthetics will work fine?

Thanks for the info.

That engine really doesn't need Prem Syn but I use the Fowler oil Extreme in mine. Check your pump marks as stated
Especialy at WOT and line them up! Then double check by filling the gas & oil and run it. The math works out to 12.5 gallons to one qt of oil! Great sled !! Have fun!!

I like the Extreme 2 Cycle also. At $19.95 a gallon it hard to beat.
