Ceramic coating

Im think about painting my pipe with this stuff and wornding if anyone has tryed it? Is it a good idea? Will it melt my hood now that i dont have that tin over it? And will i lose any hp now that the tin is not over the pipe to keep it warm witch i dont think that is what the tin is there for thoe?

If you're using a ceramic coating it should serve the same purpose as a heat shield. Actually, it should be better than a heat shield, because every sq. in. of the pipe will be covered. I would imagine you would get less heat under the hood and maybe a tiny bit more power. I'm not an expert on snowmobiles, but i'm taking this from prior general knowledge. Hope that helped!

are you talking the paint that contains ceramic or actual ceramic coating that you have to cure at 700+ degrees? i am building an oven to cure ceramic coatings now and have some to try, we are doing a set of headers for the race car first, then maybe my pipe for the sled.

if its true ceramic coating it should be just as goos if not better than the heat shield.

Neither will last long. Only way to do it is to ship it out and have it coated. The high heat paint does not react well too constant cool then rapid warming conditions. I've tried em on headers before.

that stuff aint worth a crap!

i have the real ceramic coating, it cost me $130/quart i am adding the service onto the powdercoating service i do. i also have high temp powdercoat. it will hold up on pipes and cans, better than any spray on stuff you can buy, if you want it done right you have to do it one of those two ways.

I painted the twin pipes on my 700 rmk with the ceramic paint, it lasted about 4 rides before it was flaking off... sure looked nice when it was new, looks lousy after use. It does little to keep the heat away from the hood and little to hold the heat in the can. I went back to a stock single and dont' melt things anymore

The tin is a heat shield to prevent melting of the plastic hoods.
