yes it is possible, you can get pod filters for it, uni makes some. drawbacks are LOT more noise from the engine and you will need to jet up. more times than not the only thing you acomplish with this is spending time and money and increase your fuel consumption.

I put triple UNI filters on my sled cuz i couldnt get the stock air box to fit back in my sled with the new motor swap. I DID NOT have to re jet and it runs fine.

If you ride a lot of powder, The filters can clog up. I''d leave the airbox.

on the jetting deal, i am kinda spoiled now with the DPM and the great way ski-doo had to keep the sleds running well at all times. before that i have owned a bunch of sleds and none of them had the stock jetting, jetting has (to me) always been a tuning item for ones particular sled/climate/knowledge and most of all comfort zone. if you are not well versed mechanically and do not know the art of plug reading or how to tell when your sled is running in that little lean spot when the temp drops on you, you may not want to run it down that far.

anytime i make changes to the intake or exhaust, anytime i change the way my motor will run, i check the jetting. just to say " i didnt have to jet up/down so you dont have to either" is not necessarly helping someone.

yea like SEG said alot of over hood powder could clog up the filters. But i run mostly hard pack/trails so i havnt had that problem either. But if you do go to filters keep an eye on your plugs like upsledder has been saying. Im not disagreeing with him at all. My sled was fine witht the jetting it had in it though.
