Is hyfax/sliders hard to install?

I see on my 89 wildcat I have to remove the suspension to install new hyfax....how complicated of a job is this to do?

On my FC's, you must loosen up the track quite a bit, first. Remove the screw at the front of the slide rail that holds the hyfax in position. Line up a track window at the rear & just slide it off the rail out through the window. You will prolly need some persuasion (hammer) to get it off. Spray the rail with WD-40 to help lube.

With my dad's rev we had to remove the entire rear suspension and then remove the hifax. If thats what you have to do i recommend having one or two people help you.

getting skidfram out is the easy part

Loosen track adjustment bolts till track is quite loose. Remove rear bolts that go thru tunnel to skid. Remove front
bolts thru tunnel to skid. Put sled on its side by lifting
up by a ski spindle. Pull out skid. You may have to put sled on side before the last step, or alternate tipping on sides.

The trick is getting it back in. First attach the front skidframe bolts. Then the debate started on an earlier thread this fall on how to proceed. The back skid holes will not line up now without force. Some say to first unspring the skid and loosen the limiter straps before putting the skid back in. My method is to have 2 people handy if possible, and use a come-along attached to the ski spindle or something sturdy in the front of the sled, and one of the cross members of the skid near the rear attachment bolts. Have one person pull on the come along until the bolt lines up in the hole and slide it in. Repeat on the other side.

While skid is out, inspect all idler wheels. On an 89 you will likely find some bad bearings. Maybe replace the main springs- the sled doesn't have much travel to start with, and you want all the spring force you can get. Good luck.

if you do what IRS said that is "easy". however, if you have to remove the track that is a bit more difficult. if you do remove the track id suggest using a ratchet strap to hold the rear arm in place. that way you dont have to fight to allign the bolt holes when you re-install it.

Exactly!! I've done ALL my sleds this same way! I Never had to touch a skid frame to change Hi fax. Sounds like a lot of work for a part that slides on fairly easy. Just pull it off and push it on through the track clip hole(window).

The track windows on the doo's aren't big enough . I don't know about his wildcat though. If you have any mechanical aptitude you should be able to figure it out with a few stubbed finger and scraped elbows.

If they need replacement - you better do it! If you let it go, you'll be in a lot deeper ($$$) in the long run.

Do what IRS said. It's EASY to do! I do mine in 15 or 20 minutes. Jack the rear up, remove the front screw, and tap the thing out through one of the windows in your track. Simple! Sometimes it helps to place a large screwdriver against the edge of the hyfax, and whack that. Don't worry about damaging the hyfax - you're going to throw it out anyway. Once you get it moving, it goes easier the more you have sticking out the back.
