Global warming destroying winter

I am horrified at how incresaingly warm and without snow the last few winters here have been. Especialy this winter here we are almost Christmas and basicly no snow, after almost a week of 40 degree frigin weather. We did get around 4 or 5 inches but melted after these unseasonably warm temps. Not too long ago we had lots of snow every winter and nice 0 to even 20 below degree weather rarely goin over mid 20s. I would like to know how other areas of the countrys are doing temperature and snow wise.

I'm in Chatham, Ontario. It has been incredibly warm, without snow, and every year seems to get worse and worse, all througout Ontario

Global warming is absolute B.S. Look at the trends over the last 100 years or more. There has been warm and cold streches and same goes for snowfall accumulations. I seriously hope the majority of the sledders out there don't believe this crap, it's made up by the media. Talk to anyone involved with weather, and I don't mean the tree hugger's who want anything that burns gas banned. Yes the planet is experiencing a weather change but it has done this many times and will comtinue to do it in the future.

As for weather here we have had more snow the last 2 years than most people know what to do with. We currently have well over 2 ft. of snow and got another 6" on the weekend. As for temps we have had a couple of -20 to -30 deg. C streches with the rest being around average.

This is just my opinion, though I have done alot of research into weather trends to back up what I have said. Honestly there will never be a significant change in the weather in our lifetimes!

i agree somewhat with RMK. i also think in the past 30 years things have indeed changed. snowfall amounts in my area have gone down in the past 30 years, altho close by (within 100 miles) there have been not too many significant changes in snowfall/ weather. i think our climate and temperatures have more to do with the significant loss of polar ice than they have to do with burning fossel fuels. one may say burning fuels is whats melting the ice, but when studied, the ice is melting from within, not from the outside. its something more than what we can interrupt/cause/slow down. one things for sure, we will all be dead before anything really significant happens with our climate. 2005 was a record year for hurricanes, 2006 saw very few, the doomsdayers of 05 had nothing to say this year.

put another way...WE CANNOT CONTROL THE WEATHER

Weather

It seems different areas are experiencing different weather patterns but i find it suspicious that it keeps getting warmer and worst each year. AND I HOPE NONE OF THOSE DEMOCRAT TREE HUGGER CRAP WAS DIRECTED TOWARDS ME. I am a conservative republican all the way. Dont even get me going on liberals

^ i dont think you should take what IRS to heart. im sure there was some sarcasm in what he was typing.

as for the weather trends.....from where i grew up as a young lad, to now, i can definately see that they do not get as much snow as we "used to" im not sure what the delta is for gains or loss. but it seems unseasonably warm, and in the last few years it has.

as for global warming, i think that the problem is with other countries. if the USA is doing everything we can to regulate emmissions and fossel fuel exhaust why arent other countries doing the same? if other countries are not willing to contribute equally then its like fighting a loosing battle. because no matter how hard we work to improve, there will be some third world country that will offest all the "good" we've done.

as for global warming, i dont believe it. i think the world is continually evolving and there is nothing we can do to change it.

I am on the B.S side. Weather should be defined as patterns. Wherever there’s a surplus of rain, there’s a drought. When it’s hot, its cold somewhere else. This particular warm season is caused from something called El Nino as many of may know. It is caused when the Pacific currents are warmer than usual and cause mild air to stretch across the North America. This is obviously known, because it has happened before. And, despite having weater records for only 100 years or so, thats nothint compared to the age of the earth, which we also dont know either. It nothing new, yes it sucks, but do not let the media influence your opinion so easily. It has been a while here since we have had a good season, but it was only 2 year ago we had a 115 inch snow fall season here on the Southern Coast of Maine. It isn’t even winter yet either. So hold on tite guys, it’s a process. It will come, and it’s just a matter of season pattern shifting.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has empirical data showing it is getting warmer NCDC: Global Warming and the only scientists who disagree are the same ones who don't think cigarettes cause cancer.

The big disagreement is what will happen as the climate changes. The stereotypical theory of palm trees in Montreal is probably wrong. They are starting to think that the weather will destabilize and we will see periods of extreme weather (like the current snowfall in the Pacific North West)

So, IMHO this doesn't spell the death of snowmobiling, but you may not be able to depend on snow in your back yard. But there really isn't anything new about that is there?

I think if anything will do this sport in, it will be gas prices and loss of riding trails.

I just can't pass up a flame bait thread like this

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts an increase in the global average temperature of only 2.5°F (1.4°C) to 10.4°F (5.8°C) over the coming century. This small change, less than the current daily temperature range for most major cities, is hardly cause for concern.

thats a quote i found. i think we have little to do with the warming be cause the ice they found is actually melting from the inside. if we were the cause it would probably start on the out side

here's anoter quote

the average global temperature difference between the end of the last ice age (when much of the Northern Hemisphere was buried under thousands of feet of ice) and today's interglacial climate is only about 5°C (10°F).

Well put Steve.. Very well put. Temperature increases over the last 50 years have been directly consistent with increases in Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As for what PolarisIndy500 was saying, I agree with you that the United States shouldnt' be the only country forced to help. However, as the world's most powerful country, what better place to start an example?> As far as greenhouse gas emissions per tonne goes, the United States is currently the world's worst emitter.

Believe me guys, I'm not someone who jumps at media reports, but the earth is getting warmer. It just really upsets me that if we wait too long, we might not see any good winters again in our lifetime...

Quick, everyone go out and buy hybrid vehicles and energy efficient light bulbs so we can go snowmobiling again!

Also stay inside, because those killer bees are migrating north.

Anyone else a little concerned that the global population has tripled in the last 70 years. Maybe there's a connection?

I agree there's nothing we can do.

Oh I'm sure this will hit a sore spot but I heard on the news one day that if all the passenger trucks and suv's in the U.S. got 30 mpg there would be no need for oil for americans from the middle east just something to think about. don't get me wrong i don't think everybody should go out and buy a civic or other gas mizer but it's an ineresting fact, personally my truck gets about 15 mpg and i'm sure most of you drive trucks to haul your sled or quad. However there is many people who have never put more than groceries in the back of their truck and certainly never pulled a trailer.

At 1.4 to 5.8 deg. C over the next century the human race will be gone before there's not enough snow to ride in most places. Then again maybe there will be another ice age and everything can start over. I'd rather than enjoy the snow we have then think about what will happen a thousand years from now.

I have rambled on long enough sorry guys!

I can honestly say that winters aren't the same as when I was a kid... but then again, I'm not 200 years old!

If you take a look behind the "global warming" agenda, you'll see it has nothing to do weather at all. The give-away is the word "global". Those who beat their drums to the tune of global warming are those who would back a global government. It's BAD stuff, and they use fear to spread their twisted agenda. Look at the control they have already established... ask yourself why do 4-stroke snowmobiles even exist?

If you want to talk weather, talk to a meteorologist, not a former vise president / tree hugger! There are plenty of very well respected weather people out there who will tell you that global warming is just a bunch of hooey!

Rgoers,

Perhaps you can make some comments as to the data collected that suggets global warming is a bunch of "hooey."

It is a fact that the "Greenhouse effect" is what sustains our planet... However, when greenhouse gas volumes in the atmosphere reach a certain point, not enough IR radiation is reflected back out and we experience increased heat. Data collected from core samples of ice has demonstrated that CO emissions have increased substantially since the industrial revolution, and world temperatures are consistent with this trend. Granted, there are natural cooling and warming cycles at work, but they are NOT consistent with the rapid warming we've seen in the last 40 years.

I have no problem with discussing this issue, but please, if you are going to dispute all this scientific research, back up your opinions! Otherwise, why are we even having this conversation?
