Might I ask what is your goal with this sled? Are you partial to this vintage? Model?
If not and your just looking for an inexpensive entry into the hobby/sport i would suggest to look for something newer. Not that there is anyting wrong with Yamahas, but you will get a much better sled for the same money if you keep looking. In the mid 80's we got "independent front suspension". Not a great term since, technically, leaf spring skiis were independent as well. Yamaha, for example, moved to the telescopic front suspension and the others went to some variation of linkage based front suspension. Doing this moved the springs inboard and also most of the sleds got wider.
I just picked up another two sleds this fall for about $600 each with minor work needed (clean carbs etc.) One is a 1991 EXT and the other a 1990 Jag. The jad is even electric start with reverse. You have to look arround and jump on a good deal when you see it. But, you should be able to get yourself another decade newer if you put your mind to it.
Cheers
