The carb wont 'shoot' gas. The engine will 'suck' it in. You can probably fix it, but your going to have to get a little more familiar with your machine and be more specific of the symptoms.

Do you have spark? Are the spark plugs wet after you try and start the sled?

based on your question, it would probably be best to take the sled to a shop. if you want to ride this year, that is.

That said, the 79 jag is a great sled to learn on. if you have the time, buy a repair manual and take it apart. learn how it is supposed to function. learning is easy if you have the time. document everything you remove and the order in which you remove and picture also help.

then when youo have questions or dont understand something, ask these guroos here on this website. there is a hugh amount of excellent knowledge on this site. these dudes are top notch and always seem willing to help. I'm very impressed with these experts.

I would start by cleaning the carb, sounts like something is plugged. The carb dosn't spray fuel, the engin sucks the atomized fuel through the ventury into the engin.
If you are not sure how to rebuild a carb find someone who knows what they are doing, and have them show you. One misplaced part could cause severe engin damage.....THATS BAD!!!!

How is the compression on the engine?
100psi or better and within 10% of each other.
Ideal is 120 or better.

Get a windex bottle and put some 2 stroke mix fuel in it. Squirt it into the carbs. Does it start? If it does, remove and rebuild the carbs.

Does the machine have a primer? If not, it probably should. Two to three pumps of the primer befor starting the sled should accomplish the same as the tablespoon of fuel.

A properly operating carburetor should start after a half dozen pulls without the primer however. So, it sounds like your carburetor needs to be rebuilt.
