Yamaha/Skidoo Reliability

Alright,

Quick question here...the Yamaha RX1 motor, anyone know of any problems with it? i'm looking at 2 sleds, an 03 RX1, and a 00 MXZ 700, they both have around 5000 kms on them, and the RX1 is about $2000 more. Is the $2000 worth it for a sled that is 3 years newer, and is a 4 stroke? Are there any reliability issues with either of these sleds? Just trying to decide whether I should spend the money on the RX1.

Thanks!

not sure about the RX1, but my 00 MXZ700 has over 9000 miles on it now, had new pistons and rings installed at 7500, i sold it to a friend and he's still goin strong.

I've talked to guys on the trails that were riding the RX1 and said they were a little heavy and didn't like the handling. No mention of engine problems. And I've never heard of any probs with the MXZs.

They are both great motors, the RX-1 is VERY heavy compared to the Doo.

You guys are funny. He asks for facts on reliability issues and you give him weight differences.

So to answer your question to the best of my knowledge, yes the yamaha 4 strokes are very reliable. Never heard of any problems nor have I had any in the past 3 years riding them. Paying an extra $2000 for a sled that is 3 years newer is the better way to go no matter what sled it is given that it is in equal or better shape. Besides worrying about engine issues, a 3 year older sled will just plain old have more wear on everything as a whole.

Now I can go into the weight issue. Yes of course the RX is heavier. I'm about 160 lbs and I rode a warrior for 2 years. The biggest problem that I ran into being the weight I am is sidehilling in powder. Its a little tough to get it stabled to climb out and back up. I got it done no problem but thats where I felt most of the weight. Besides that if you aren't a ***** you can manoeuver it anywhere else without a problem. And it does have gobs of power.

The MXZ 700 is a reliable sled as well. My buddy has been riding the same one for 4 years. Never any problems with it that I know of. I think he has 8000 km without touching it so far.

i'd go for the yamaha lots of power and like yamaha very reliable. their certainly isn't anything wrong with mxz's tho. And like they pointed out the yammi's newer and a 4 stroke.

The DOO DOO is a good sled but the RX-1 is just broke in. I mean think of three years newer and the longevity. Its got a crotch rocket engine in it. Bikes u see alot with 30,000 miles on them. Sleds u get 4500 miles and u need a rebuild often. The weight i dont think is much of an issue. I got a 2005 RX warrior. This is a great sled, id get on that RX-1. The money is worth it. Before that sled is ever wore out u will want to buy a new one just because we all do. I guarantee she will still be running strong.
