is this what I want 98 zl440
To start off I don't want to hear about any brand loyalty.
I have found a gent who will hold this sled for a month for me if I provide a good faith jesture $50. It is a 98 zl440, 5k mi, 120 picks on factory track, plastic skis, it looks almost new. it does not look abused, I showed up unexpectedly at 6:00am as he was going to work. his wife gave me the keys and it started with 1 prime pull and 1 to start, well not eaven a full pull. he is asking $1500.
Q: is this the sled for primairly tight 4 wheeler trails and some vast(groomed) trails and very little lake. If not What should I be looking for. It looks like I may have some $$ next month and I don't want to miss out on a deal that would be right for me. Most of the sleds I was watching in this area were sold with the last snow we had.

Sounds perfect for what you want to do. 440 is plenty of power for tight trails, etc. 5k miles might be a little high. Do a compression test on it to see what it's reading. If it's 120lbs or up, I'd scoop it.

Suspensions came a LONG way in that amount of time! Plus more efficient engines, etc.

I think the price is a tad high. See if he will take $1,200 for it.

sell you my 96 indy xlt for less than that, and it only has 1800 miles on it, looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Its darn near perfect.

SEG is right do that compression test. The miles are kinda high but if the sled is what you say it is, you cant find much for $ 1500. I actually just found my buddy a 2003 F5 with 396 miles on it for $3000. I thought this was a heck of a deal. Just thinke about this sort of finding when u are looking. The deals are out there. Especially with little snow in our forecast.

If it starts that easy, and is in as good shape as you say, negotiate with him on the price. That 440 can quite likely take a lot of bigger sleds on real tight trails due to it's weight and acceleration.
