New Phazer
Hey,
what do you guys think of the new Yamaha Phazer? Just curious...it seems pretty affordable and would be neat in the twisty trails! Not sure about 80HP though, but apparently they are torquey and rev up to 11,000 RPM!!
What are your thoughts on it?

i'd try to figure out where the torque is most useful at. If it is in the top end of the powerband, then the HP wont really mean much, nor matter. Horsepower sells engines, torque wins races.
Oh and uh, I noticed this before, phazer is Sled of the Year. So for all you Yami bashers out there, thats GOTTA hurt!

im going to have to disagree w/ you on this one...i absolutely love the new phazers. i dont think they're ugly at all. i like how they did a way with the "wasted" space in the nose and made it look more like a quad up front.
the new issue of snowgoer had the phazer on the cover page, and they too rated it top sled of 07.
when i was at the yamaha booth at hastings i picked up a DVD on the 07 phazers and it was pretty good. outlined a lot of good points for why the sled performs how it does. granted its prolly a good marketing tool, but there had to be some truth to it.
the only thing that bugs me is that its 4-stroke. i havent completely accepted 4 strokes yet, however when the RX-1's and Vipers were first out they caught my eye.

I'm flip flopping on the looks of it right now, when you look at it from one angle it looks cool, and then from a different angle you think WTF...but all in all I think its going to be a fun sled to ride...hoping someone I know picks one up so I can give it a shot and see how it rides! But I understand what KEMO says abotu figuring out where the torque range is in it, and how useful it is. But the top end is only 70 MPH from the reviews I've read...but...I guess thats still quick enough!

I looked at the Phazer at the Novi Show. It takes awhile to get used to. But its a light sled suppossably. My son just loves it. I would like to RIDE one to see how it handles. I'm sure we'll hear more reviews on it as the season goes on.

I was just looking at a couple of them last night, at the low end or 6399 msrp. for them fairly inexpensive sled, Up close they do have a differnt look about them. Hell if I could get financed I would take it, just to have a NEW sled....
top speed of 70? In the trails that is plenty for me, now on the lakes, hmmm thinking I might like a lttle more. (now that vmax 750 is looking better)

My brother in law has a 04 raptor 660r, and I guess the look of this sled didn't suprise me one bit. It looks just like a raptor with skis and a track. If the sled handles anything like that raptor, I will be looking into getting one in the next couple of years.

Saw a couple in action this last weekend. A guy riding a RX-1 drove past yelling "never buy a yamaha!!" as he would hit the gas and the sled would surge then just bog untill he came to a complete stop again. But the sled looked like it had been rode hard and had little maintenance done to it.
But watching the phazer mtn lite it's definitely not a super-climber. Did well in the deep snow and the boondocking style of riding but was only getting half as high as myself and the guy with the 800 summit, but I'm not sure why I expected more than that from a considerably smaller sled. The guys that were riding them said they were really happy with them so far, and they were just cool to watch. They did look like they were prone to wheelie too high going up the hills, causing the driver to have to turn back down. I'd love to get on one and see what it could do though.

In a magazine that I read, I can't remember which one, they put a turbo on the phazer and got the HP numbers up. I believe that 4 strokes are a good alternative if you can get the power there. For this sled, it seems like it is going to take a lot of convincing that yamaha can produce a light and nimble sled, seeing as they made heavy sleds for so long.

heavy? I dont know what you consider heavy, buy my old 87 phazer 500 was the lightest sled I have ever had. I could damn near throw it arounnd in a complete 360...
and fast as a bullet.

Those old phazers were light and quick, but they were also 2-strokes. Yamaha's trying to duplicate that genre with a 4-stroke and they're going in a good direction but the fact is, 4-strokes are heavier.
