Remote starters on sleds, anyone have one?
I've been doing remote starters for many years and have installed them on many weird vehicles. Now that I have a little project, it got me thinking of remote starters for sleds. Has anyone installed or had installed one on their sled? Obviously this would only work on fuel injected sleds with some sort of parking brake or way to keep it from taking off by itself. Any ideas? If there is anyone close to me and would like to try it, PM me.

Wow, just the thought of putting a remote starter on a sled..... first thing I thought of was the ride I got when I started my 78 Colt 250 one day only to find the throttle frozen open.... that will get your attention...

Yeah well that's why I stated you'd want a fuel injected sled. I bet your Colt sure woke you up huh?

artic cat has them as an option on the t660, 660, and sabercats. all efi sleds that have electric start have remote start options from cat. very sweet setup for the anti-cold snowmobiler. some guy when i went riding had this, we were inside a diner and and hit some button and his sled started. very cool.

Yeah, for a sled with electric start and fuel injection, it'd be so easy to install.

call me crazy.....
I dont see the big deal with the remote start, my buddy has it on his 700 Sabercat, he starts it a couple of minutes before we take off, then he sits and waits for us to take off together. Its not like the sled is enclosed and has heat like a car, but maybe I am missing something...........:

that exatly what i was thinking. But maybe to get the grips and thumb warmed up. And i guess letting the motor warm up a bit wouldnt hurt either.

if you dont like the cold, why are you riding in the WINTER?
w/ the technology going into sleds, very rarely do you see guys (atleast where i ride) pull starting the sh!t out of their sled, or even excessively using elec. start for that matter.
granted when its really cold my sled is hart to start w/ the elec start, but what advantage does remote start offer?
by the time you start your sled (pull or elec), let it warm up (while getting helmet, gloves ect on) your ready to hit the road.
i dunno about you guys, but i like the "pre ride" check list. for example while the sleds starting/warming up, get all your things in line, check oil, get gear on ect.

My thoughts exactly! How lazy can you be? If you don't like the cold, than take up knitting! Start your sled, get dressed, check oil/gas and you're ready to go.

i can understand elec start for your car/truck b/c some ppl are forced to live/work in an area where its cold, and they dont want to go outside to start the vehicle, or defrost their windows. or its just to damn cold to go outside if you have to. this way they can do it from inside the home. but for a sled, thats just rediculous.
thnx brp for agreeing

I guess. Although I'd like electric start (not remote) for my 800 triple sometimes...

It's been interesting to hear all of your takes on this subject. I just figured more guys would like them since so many people already have them on their cars and trucks. I guess I was wrong.

I can sit here right now and give you one good reason for eletric start, one if you have it, use it, but they are there to elimnate extra strain, but i use it more for the fact that i dont want to wear out my pull start rope, and only use for emerygency uses such as when the electric goes out, because i sure hell wouldnt want my rope breaking on me while buried i na 10foot swell.

Um, hes not talking about electric start, hes talking about remote electric start aka you could sit inside and start your sled without physically going to it.

Yes, I am aware of that formula, I read the thread. Remote start would be using "electricity" aka I said you should use any formula of power starting if you could or wanted to. Also some of the guys above mentioned it, so if you scroll bacj up before you got to excited, you would see where my response fit in just perfectly to the relm of conversation.

Yes I am aware of this formula, I read the thread. I know he is talking about remotoe starter, I am basically replying to the mere fact that what ever type of form you use to start your sled, its better you use that then waste precious pull starts, its pretty simple point. Also I was referring to electric start just like SEG was.
