Question Anyone ever build a stand

I just found plans for building a sled stand (the kind that goes under the running boards, and lifts the whole sled). I see them for $300+, so building it would save some money (especially since I have a lot of scrap stock). It looks pretty straight forward. Anybody ever build one?

Is there any way to share those plans with the rest of us?? A nice stand would be real handy!!

How about posting the link or making copies of the plans available in pdf.

The plans are very detailed - measured drawings! I forgot where I originally got them, but I did a search on the filenames and came up with these links:

http://www.315er.net/photopost/showp...o=1155&cat=507
http://www.315er.net/photopost/showp...o=1156&cat=507

These look exactly like the plans I have...

Printed as .PDF

If anyone wants to know how to do this, just put "Primo PDF" in a search. it installs as a printer.

I have a couple 12' sections of heavy duty super-strut channel that a friend gave me.

I'm going to try to substitute that for the rectangle tubing.

Take the file to Kinko's or Staples and have it printed on the large format printer.

thanks for the plans. I made mine a little differently. Looking at these plans, i cant really see how it works. i know the assembly diagram doesnt show the ram or jack but it looks like the cross member may get in the way.

i'll try to grab a few shots of my stand tonight.

The cross member has a weird 'step' in the middle of it. Did you get both drawings? You can see it in one of the drawings...

One number is different. They're 2 separate drawings, but they belong together. There's details on how to cut the jack unit and attach it on the second one.

I'm going to get started within a couple weeks. I have a friend with a metal cutoff saw, so I can get some straight cuts. I'll try to take some pics as I go, and post them.

Check out Northern Hydraulics. The wife got me one for my birthday but have not used it yet. If you build on you will probably have as much in materials as you will to buy one, not to mentiion the labor.

I think you missed the part where I can get all the metal stock FREE. Additionally, I own a MIG welder, so the labor is basically "free" as well. The only real cost will be the trailer jack. I figure I should save around $300 on the project, as opposed to buying one... not to mention buying one is certainly NOT in my budget.

The fact is; I don't really *need* the stand. I just thought it would be cool to build one since I could do it for next to free.

Woah, back off here BOY. Just thought you might want to look at your options. Didn't mean to get your undies in a wad. By the way a 1500 LB air operated lift is $129 and base model is $79. So if your thinking of saving $300good luck!
