Need some help to start my snowmobile life...
So just getting into it -
do I buy a used one or new?
do I go with brand and is one any better than another?
and finally since I live in low snow country, is it even worth it?
any help would be appreciated!

1. i would buy used
2. doesn't really matter what brand.
3. if you live in low snow country its up to you if its worth it. if it was me, i would get one but thats just because i love to snowmobile and i dont mind having to trailer north for some snow.

Where? in low snow country? If you get even some, I'd start with a good used sled and maybe a trailer too so that I could get to the big snow when there isn't enough at home.

I agree with them. Start out used. There's nothing worse than making a sled payment and never getting to ride it at all.

Start out buying used. Look for a good dependable sled. Where in low SNOW country are you? You might just have to trailer your sled if you want to get into the sport. Good luck.

Wave Runner??? = money. Check the water sports forum for members that have had them. Sounds like a lot of repairs and head aches. Ask SEG! I personally have never had the notion to get one. I'll just wait for the SNOW to fly, and head up to IRS's or ITriumph/mouses's place or our family place south of Gaylord, and fricken RIDE the storm out on the Snow Show!
Does this sound like I'm waiting for SNOW FLAKES?

SE PA huh? I hope you're not judging by last year's snowfall. I'd buy used, for sure. Brand doesn't really matter. For your weight, I'd look for a 500-600, for starters. If you can afford the trip up I81, there's some good riding in the Adirondacks.

ok so you will mostly ride anything
im gonna suggest skidoo cuz that's what I like and ride and trust
now im guessin if your just startin out in this sport your not gonna want huge power
so im gonna suggest a 01 skidoo mxz 583 with a 121" track
my buddie picked one up for $1500 and its been awesome
and the 583 is a bulletproof engine

The 500/600cc range is the best for the type of riding that you will be doing and also the most economical, fuel wise. The brand is unimportant, but make sure that you can get parts and service easily. Sometimes the local dealer can make a difference in you riding pleasure by being willing to go a little further than the next one, and that should have a bearing on the brand that you get. It makes no difference what brand you have, if the dealer will not give you the support that you need when it is necessary.
I personally am partial to AC, but if I got better treatment at another brand, that's where I will go.
Do a little research with the dealers in your area and find the one that you feel most comfortable with. Good used sleds can be had from them or from a private seller. Take someone who is experienced in buying sleds with you to help check them out and show you what to look for, IE; worn or damaged parts that are not readily visable and signs of neglect or abuse.
Avoid sleds that have been heavily modified as they require a lot more care and have a higher maintanace requirement.

i'm an artic cat guy myself, but its a good idea to find out if you have a good local dealer near you for the brand you buy for parts, service and anything else you may need.
There is nothing like buying a sled, needing something for it, and haveing to drive 3-4 hours to your nearest dealer for a $5 part. Good, close service is the key to keeping you happy in a crunch.
