Hey guys i had a question about a possible build i want to do. My grandpa has a 2000 xlt 600 triple 2up sled he sold me for 300 bucks. I want to do the unthinkable and turn it into a mountian sled. Any pointers or ideas thanks yall
First thing I would do is get a deeper lugged track. If you are going to hit the hills, the small lugged track won't get you very far on those awesome powder days. You will be limited to what track will fit the stock suspension. Going to smaller driver cogs will allow you to use an even bigger lugged track.
2-up sleds weigh a bunch because they have to handle the load of two riders. If you keep the stock suspension, you will be limited in your capability in the mountains. The front suspension is also wide to make trail riding safe and effortless. Those things are both the opposite of what a mountain machine should have; you want as light as possible, and a narrow front end to be able to carve and side hill in the deep stuff.
Thank you bc dan any pointers will help i kinda figured that about the suspension if im not mistaken it has a 144" track on this sled i could be wrong tho
I'm going to guess that's a 136" track. Most sleds of that vintage had a 136" for the two ups.
I'd keep it fairly simple: Put a one up seat on there, get a deeper lug track, some bar risers, maybe some new bars, and wider front skis.
While you did get the sled for a good price, you have to watch your dollars here. By the time you're done, you can easily have another grand invested into the sled. At that point, it may have been simpler to just drop $1,300 into an SKS or RMK; factory mountain(ish) sleds for their time.
