Hi all,
I recently blew a drive shaft bearing so I had to take the suspension out etc. I started by taking the 4 bolts out to release the suspension. I got 3 of the 4 out, but that 4th one will turn but not come out. It doesn't turn super free but I'm not sure how to figure out if it is stripped or something else. Any thoughts? If it is stripped, what can I do about it?
Thanks for all of the great responses in advance!!
That bolt is threaded into a pivot shaft, and that whole shaft is turning.
Easy way to get it out: Thread a nut onto the bolt for the other side, then insert it into the shaft a few turns. Tighten the nut to the tunnel. This will jam the shaft. Remove the stuck bolt, loosen the nut, then remove the other bolt.
Ok. I wacked it with a rubber hammer and then pried at it with a screw driver and it finally came out. I got everything else out too so all I have to do now is wait for my bearings. Does anyone have suggestions as to where I can get the best price for bearings for both sides of the drive axle? (speedometer side and chain case side)
OK they are the same on both sides.
You will want to put the 3 bolt flange on, and then the bearing with the lock collar to the inside.
Set the lock collar with the end of the shaft flush with the bearing.
Then put the other 3 bolt flange on and then put it to the tunnel.
I went out to the shop and looked at the bearings. The chaincase side does not have a locking collar but the other side does. I assume that is right , but you had mentioned that both sides should have a locking collar?
So was the amazon one correct for the bearing then? Is the other bearing the same one but without the locking collar? Are the locking collars built onto the bearing or could I get two of these bearings and just not use the collar on one?
I got 2 of these in the mail today and I am still waiting on the key to get here. Do I need seals or how does that work? If possible, could someone give me a basic step by step as to how to install the bearings on both sides?
Thanks,
First time doing a bearing.
