Rangeley Death

RANGELEY, Maine -- An 18-year-old was killed Friday morning when he crashed his snowmobile on Haley Pond in the western Maine town of Rangeley.

State officials said Douglas White, of Durham, was riding a snowmobile with friends at about 3 a.m. when he hit an outcropping of land that he apparently didn't see.

Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department spokesman Marc Michaud said White was sent airborne and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michaud said White was wearing a helmet. Officials are looking into whether alcohol was involved.

It was the fourth snowmobile fatality of the season in Maine.

This kid wasn't personally my friend, but I've hung out with him quite a few times. Just goes to show what drinking and snowmobiling do. So for anyone outhere who things they're ok to drive their sled after a few drinks, think again. I just hope now all the kids in my town realize how serious their drinking habbits really are...it's too bad it takes this to show them...

No beleive me they had never went to bed. They'd been up all night drinking. And yeah TNT, you're exactly right. You feel so bad but it's like maybe now the rest of them will learn, it just sucks that it had to end up like this...
