99 6.5 diesel suburban
So on the way to my folks cabin last night with a suburban-load of people and a 3 sleds on the trailer the truck starts hesitating like transmission can't decide when to shift. A little further along power cuts out and I pull over thinking the truck died because I was accelerating when it quit. The "service throttle soon" light kicked on. When the truck stops I realize it's still running and idling fine but when I push the accelerater nothin happens. I turned the motor off and then back on and the light dissappeared and I tried to resume the trip. Not a mile later it did it again. And after it would sit for a little bit I could get sporatic accelleration. So I managed to limp to a friends house by accellerating extremely slowly with hardly any movement on the pedal. So besides killing our weekend this is my folks truck so I'm hopin to get it fixed before they get back from Hawaii. Anybody had this happen or heard of it?

I'm assuming it's something in the throttle cables. I would follow them from the peddle to the throttle body and see if anything is broken or out of place. I've never even heard of a car having a "service throttle soon" light

hm. From what I found on google there is no throttle cable? It's all controlled by sensors? So I guess I gotta look at the electronics that control the pedal..... I'd much rather replace a cable....

Damn technology! Makes it impossible for normal guys to fix anything without screwing something else up! A cable would be much easier to replace, and cheaper too!!! Good luck

Are you sure it reads 'Service throttle soon' ? If so thats kind of specific for a hud indicator. I kind of doubt it has to do with the throotle. Check a chevy forum, probably get some answers there.

Easiest thing is gonna be to get someone to read the trouble codes. And yes, 99' burbans have a service throttle soon light.(double check to make sure you have good grounds, and the terminals on tight on your battery)

Your throttle sensor might be screwed up...why can't they just stick with cable.

Alright well I ended up taking the pedal w/ the attatched "Accelerator Position Potentiometer Module" and looked at it...turned it over...stared at it some more...thought for the fun of it I'd stick it back in and see if I could get it to work by wiggling the connection to see if it was just loose wires. So I stuck it back in and re-attatched the connector plug and it hasn't sputtered since!! Which is cool but at the same time irritating because it blew my whole weekend over what appeared to be just a loosening connector. *(#$^*$%#&(*%!! Oh well it's working now with no $$$ invested so I can be happy I didn't pay a shop to tell me I needed to replace it for $400 plus labor. (#@$%&ing electronics... Time to take the sled for a ride so I can blow off steam...
