My Buddy almost Cashed Out
Last week-end my buddy totaled his machine and almost himself.
He called me Saturday afternoon to go ridin, but I was out of town and didn't get the message until Sunday night. I called him to see if he got out. Appears him and a couple others were standing around on the lake downing a few beers (6 he says). They then decided to make a run down the lake to town and ended up having a couple more (he says) in the local bar.
They came out just when it was getting dark. The run home on the lake would be about 10 miles and he says they were running full out, he hit a ridge someone had made when they made an ice rink on the lake. The others say he went 50 feet in the air and the machine was not far behind. The machine a 97 V Max 600 is twisted like a cork screw. He broke ribs, has two sprained wrists, cracked his helmut and the rest of his body is bruised and sore. I hope it knocked some sense into him. I don't drink & drive so maybe if I had been there he may not of ended up spending the night in the hospital.
Anyways folks, the moral of the story, beer & testestarone don't mix!

My friends dad and his buddies drink and ride! It pisses the hell out of me, they are trashed and riding on trails that others are using! Everytime they go out, someone ends up crashing! I'm glad to hear that he wasn't killed, for some reason people can't get it through their thick skulls that alcohol impairs your judgement!
Drive safe!

Heres a related story. Going to Eagle River this weekend. My crew in a 2002 F-350 pulling a 25 foot enclosed trailer with 3 sleds and our gear and e.c.t. Half way there a Chevy truck looses control on an icy corner in front of us and goes into the other lane then slams his breaks to a hault. The car going at him hit our lane and in return we can't slow down on the same ice and end up swerving and hitting the truck. Result. Our truck looses stearing immedaiatly and we go over a 15 foot bank trailer and all, Chevy looks like a train hit it and the other car never stoped! Our truck is totaled from front end damage, trailer looks like a bannana and three sleds are all cracked to hell. Cop said only reason that driver of the other truck lived was because he didn't have his seatbelt on and it shoved him in his buddies lap. He was drinking as well. The guy that swerved in our lane was drinking or didn't have a liscence or he would have stoped. Thats my sledding story for the weekend. Nobody was injured except for minor cuts and what not.

It might be hard for you, but call the cops next time they do it. It could save someone's life. I know I'd rather lose a friendship than have someone lose their life.

i lost an uncle in november cuz he was drinking and riding. i think there should be harsher punishments for getting caught drinking and driving. and belive me if i see people drinking and riding i will call the cops because there is no need for that. its fun enough without being drunk.
ride safe out there (if you have snow)

Glad to hear he's alright, maybe this will be an eye opener for him. Here in NY, they check people like crazy for alcohol on the trails, I myself have been given a sobriety test once on the trail. It's a pain, but it does make them safer.

May seem bad to say, but I have NO sympathy for people who drink and ride. They give the sport a bad name.

I've only come across someone drinking and riding out where I ride once. He was lucky enough to not wreck into anything but when we got back to the parking lot he asked me to get his truck unstuck and I told him to call a cab. (which was ludicrous because the cabs don't go out that far) weird thing was he seemed to understand my decision to not help him out.

Sad thing is, latert at night cops could go up to all the riders, and probably 10% of them would be legally drunk. Somehow they think its less dangerous on a sled.

i came across a guy a few years back on the trail wasted and when i say wasted i mean coudn't stand up. he crashed his sled into a brook on the side of the trail. he waved me down and asked for help to get out. i told him no and offered him a ride to the nearest gas station so he could call someone to pick him up. he declined and apperently some one helped him later on cuz he was later found dead wraped around a tree at the edge of a lake in northern new hampshire. i remember feeling like crap cuz i could have maybe persuaded him a little more to take the ride. but now i have no sypathey for people like that. but if that ever happens again i definatley will not leave till either thay take the ride or call the cops.

Friend was out riding a couple weeks ago. Started early, to get good trails. Said he stopped for breakfast around 10, and there were guys doing shots at the bar. They left, got on their sleds, and rode off. Just plain stupid!!!
They'll get NO sympathy from me when they end up dead. The real losers are their families though...
Folks, wise up! If you normally drink and ride, now is the time to stop.
