limiter straps and acceleration issues...

Hey guys,
Earlier this year I decided to lenghten the limiter straps on my 2001 MXZ 700. Hoping to get a little more wheelie fun and acceleration out of it . I did notice a bit more ski lift out of it but that is about it. However after riding it for a bit this year and racing my buddie's 700 SX-R, I am feeling like I have actually lost performance. Last year we raced dozens of times in fields with 8 - 12 inches of snow and I would easily win every race. I would get the holeshot and steadily pull away the entire race. This year however, after the limiter strap change, I am finding myself neck and neck with him and sometimes even getting nosed until I can hit about 70mph when I can finally start pulling ahead. I was just wondering if the limiter strap could do that at all. I thought that by lengthening them that it would make the ski's lighter and possibly give more acceleration, not less. Keep in mind the SX-R is exactly the same as last year and the only change to the MXZ is the limiter strap. We pretty much ride together all the time so the belt wear from last year to this year shouldn't be an issue and my sled seems to be running real strong other then the initial acceleration. Any suggestions or thoughts????

Have you tried putting the limiter strap back to where you had it before and see if the acceleration improves? I would start with that! If it doesn't improve than you know it's the limiter strap causeing the problem and not something else!

Well the limiter straps will make you front come up a bit more.. thus puttin more weight on the back and on your track... Then only thing i can think is that your digging too much of a hole when you take off.. But i dont know..

Its shouldnt hurt your acceleration..

You good in clutchs? and your belts?

Where ur belt is riding in your secondary will make a big differents in your acceleration and take off.

Just though u should know..

the belt is pretty new and is in good shape yet so that shouldn't be the problem. I have already set the straps back where they were but we don't have any snow to try it out!!! i havn't been able to ride since Christmas . I have been waiting almost 2 months to test and I am getting anxious, that is why I thought I would ask your opinion on it. When we raced it just seemed that I couldn't get any power to the ground. I was wondering if since the front end is lifting higher that there would be a smaller footprint on the ground, therefore less traction. What do you think?
