Seems Like I Ran Out Of Gas Questions?

89 wildcat 650

the sled just died on me while i was riding...i had some gas in the tank yet, but could see the gas lines going to the carb were dry.

its really cold today

i noticed the vent hose for the gas tank is wire tied pinched....shouldn't that be open? what is the reason someone might have tried to close the vent hose.

thanks.

Probably had a little water that froze in a fuel line somewhere. The vent line is supposed to be open.

well i dont think you have a fuel pump on a old sled like that so its probably your fuel line is frozen like smallengineguy said.

If not that im not sure maybe your line in your tank is higher then the bottom, and its crabbing air...

there could also be a inline fuel filter or a filter in the tank that could have ice or dirt build up. Bein an older sled thats gota be the problem

Vent line should be open, so it can "VENT"! I'm going to agree with everyone else and say frozen fuel line. Warm up the sled and use some fuel line anti-freeze for a tank or two and that will obsorbe any water in there!

Just finally got it home and inside my garage......topped off the gas, cut the pinched end of the vent hose off. Can't get it to go. I took the lines off going to the carb and then pulled and had plenty of gas coming out of those fuel lines so I am good after my fuel pumps. Will need a buddy to come over and help me check spark. But I also notice it is very hard to pull over...could that be because it ran out of gas? If I pull when the plugs are out, it pulls like normal (which makes sense). I am hoping I just have fouled plugs (will have to buy some tonite).

I also noticed when it first stalled on me, and I unscrewed the gas cap, you could feel and hear that the tank was holding a vacuum. I am hoping that was because of the pinched vent hose. This is a sled I haven't rode much yet so it could be anything.

I did just put in a thermstat last night. (never had one) I can't believe that has anything to do with my problem

Any other ideas welcomened

hmm.. if you take the spark plugs out and pull it should be alot easier, then pulling them when they are in. This is because there is no compression...

And it shouldn't get harder to pull it if you just ran out of gas, the only way it would be harder to pull is if you siezed your engine a bit.

Not sure what else i can say to help you out. U need to go over all your sled, sparkplugs, gas lines, carbs etc..

Hope you find the problem..

it might be flooded with fuel and on the verge of hydrolocking.

figured it out, my oiler is not working on 1 cylinder. took head and jug off and piston rings are shot, wall might need to be replated, other cylinder looks ok so new ring s will go on that is all.

this bites, that was a brand new piston and rings and replating about 30 miles ago.

now i need to figure out a good way to unhook the oiler so i can just be safe and run premix.
