1st sled
the frist seld that i bought myself, 98 srx 700, i didnt realize i ahd to change hyfax (went from a 80 something 340 polaris that had hyfax on it still from polaris, thought they never went). well anyways, i was up with my buddy in hillman, came out of a field going about 65.
The alum. slide rails went n snapped, ripping the track. the track came back up behind me and nearly hit me, ripping the seat. this mistake cost me nearly a grand by the time i got it fixed! new rails, studded track, tail light, snow flap, and seat.
i learned another reason too from that sled..
YAMAHA CANT MAKE SLEDS FOR CRAP!! that triple sucked.

By the sounds of it, you may have been having a maintenance issue, expecially considering this thousand dollar damage was caused by not knowing that hyfax needs periodic replacement.

Seems like the newer sleds these days are having more trouble staying together than ones from like 10 years ago. Do you think our wonderful sled designers are rushing these machines out to the market to keep up with our fast pace lives.? With all the technology these days these machines shouldn't have the troubles they are having. My Apex for instance, for the price thought I was getting a winner compared to what I was getting from Polaris in recent years. I've had wheel and slide issues right away. Now I added 6" to my snow flap and snow stays underneath keeping slides and wheels cool finally, but also noticed I have a kink in my tunnel for no reason, have to get a new one now. I can't even change my own oil on it,they've made it so challenging. You have to wonder if these people know what they are doing when they put a product out. To me with the SRX issue, sounds to me like you need to look at things before you go,Yamaha couldn't prevent what happened to you, tough luck I guess!

More like our fast-paced demands. Just look at the other threads talking about new sleds. If they didn't radically redesign the sled they call it a cop-out. The more complicated the technology, if not thoroughly tested will generally be more problematic just because more things can go wrong. And as for being able to maintain the machine yourself, when people are demanding the horsepower of a small car on a snowmobile, its hard to make something that you can just pop the hood on and fix. It seems like the sled manufacturers probably do know what they're doing: trying to please consumers who, at least some of them, are very hard to please.
Not to mention trying to make a sled that is also safe and clean.

My fav. manufacturer was Polaris until I owned a Fusion last year, too many problems, drove me nuts. My Apex isn't exactly problem free either! Thinkin I might get a Skidoo Renegade if I don't buy a Nytro next year. Why can't these things be like they use to be,DEPENDABLE! My Apex is more rear suspension issues now,mu Fusion was motor problems, what's next. I might go through the whole "Brand rotation" yet before I find my favorite manufacturer again by the time it's all said and done, this sucks.

i heard that the new yammies needed some extra wheels to let the hyfax last longer.

The wheels are just an all out issue, they don't last under them. Dad and I each have 3 sets of wheels under our Apexs,'last set were Polaris because Yamaha ran out of wheels. Don't know what to say, disappointed in Yamaha for not putting a durable suspension underneath. I think the Monoshock just isn't the right application, maybe the Proaction is better, we both are kind of thinking of getting a leftover Nytro if they are better. I might even switch again to a Skidoo Renegade because I don't want to end up with the same sled as my dad three years in a row? But now that we added more on to our snowflap it keeps snow underneath, before nothing stayed under making our rails dry and then get hot burning off slides,so that much helped, wheels not so much yet?I guess we are getting an extra set of wheels though to try out.
