Taking one sled off only

I had this posted on another forum before I realized it would be more appropriate here.

I have two Pantera sleds on a 12 foot SnoPro tilt trailer with cap. How do I take one off without having to shimmy both sleds back to shift the balance weight? Is there something I am doing wrong perhaps with the placement of the sleds on the trailer? It gets nerve-wracking having the trailer slam down because of the weight transfer. The trailer does have the lift rods, but that is not much to soften the blow.

I was watching others with their shorter sleds on the 10 foot trailers and it looked like they were balanced beautifully.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well, heres what i do...

when taking only one sled off, and leaving one on...we just simply back the sled/pull the one you want off the trailer. meanwhile my dad or i just put our foot on the back end of the trailer to keep it down, then once the sled is off we just gently let go and the trailer goes back down on its own (not slamming down but all you gotta do is give it a nudge)

When I am taking only one sled off, I use the tiedown bar as a prop under the trailer and then take it out to lower the bed.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's because of the sled weight. Each of these are running about 570 lbs without fuel. Maybe these are too front-heavy. I don't have a lot of room at the rear of the trailer to play with to center the weight any more.

Could I have chosen the wrong type of trailer for these sleds? Would a fixed bed with ramp been better?

I'm not in the exact same situation as you, but when ever I want to keep my trailer tilted I have a small piece of 4X4 that I wedge between the bottom of the trailer and the towing arm. Seems to do the trick!

Problem solved. I had a chance to move the sleds back on the trailer to where the clamshell just cleared the tail lights on the sleds. While it was still tilted, I was able to pull downward on the front of the shell and the bed came up. With that positioning, I should be able to take one sled off without too much problem.

Thanks for your help.
