Has anyone got ticketed
Has anyone gotten a ticket for loud pipes? And how much was the ticket. I have heard that its $200 and you have to leave sled sit and go get the trailer. Wisconsin or UP

Ticket here is $150. A guy we were riding with got one. The next day he had the stock pipes back on, and the aftermarket ones in the paper

A friend told me that he saw a group of riders get stopped for illegal exhausts yesterday here in Wyoming County. The police checked under the hoods of each sled in the group until they found the offender, and then he was ticketed.
I have no idea what the fine will be though.

i love loud pipes...both my sleds have canisters, and i know there is alot of poeple out there that dislike them, thats your choice....but me, you'll always hear me coming
where i live, everyone has a loud sled and no one ever complains....but thats were i live,
There was a big ISSUE in town (30kms away) here cause one of the trails went by a horse stable where people learn to ride horses, and people were FREAKING cause sledders were riding by just crackin their sleds by the stables, and the horses can handle sleds at a slow speeds and not at high rpms, but young careless punks on their loud sleds just screamed by scare the horses and now some people taking lessons get scared of them, and now they are talkin about closeing that trail. I dont live in town or use it, so it dont effect me....There was 4 tickets handed out to people screaming their sleds on the trails, and it was $150 each,
My sleds are very loud, and i ride at low speeds around populated areas for respectful reasons.
But when im on a lake or on a straight away, of course im gonna let'er loose...thats what i bought it for

Both of my 06's have cans, they are not loud at normal riding. We are going up to MI. on Thursday and meeting friends in Wisconsin on Sunday evening. That is why I was curious on how strict and how much tickets are. We don't crank on them around town, but like for other riders to know we are near them. Thanks for the feedback, but someone has to of got a ticket by now.

the way i see it is , if they sell it for a trail sled then it should be legal, its called individuality ,if everyone was all stock exhuast there would be no,(from a half mile away) "well it sounds like shane is riding again" ,
but if i were to ride a cat 600 mod (for snoX) on the trail (they come loud, dont they?) then they could nott say go stock, because it was bought new that way
[starts petition for all new sleds to be loud, and to offer quieter pipes as a option]
LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES
people have been wipedout because they could not see or hear the sled, if it had loud pipes on it they may have lived

Here's the deal in NY. I found out last Friday at Tug Hill. You can have pipes all day long as long as they aren't louder than stock (rriigghht) tested with a decibal reader. There was a big intersection and the sherriff was checking NY registration and didn't have his reader with him so he let me go. But not after reading me the riot act. He said to change it or sooner or later I will get ticketed (I'll take my chances). Not sure the fine though.
Moral of the story. You'll most likely only be ticketed if it is justified with a reader, unless your screwing around in town or something being an annoyance. Cheers, OB

As this is a dead issue, the EPA issues the standards, and we have to get along with the non-snowmobiling public, I will no longer get into any such discussion about pipes.

Last season a group of us were riding in the U.P. on a trail that wonders into Wis for a few miles. We were stopped and 1 of our group had aftermarket pipes dumping into factory muffler ( very quiet) He was ticketed and had to tow the sled back to state line into MI. The officer followed us all the way. Ticket just under 2 c-notes According to the Wis DNR officer in Wis no aftermarket exhaust of any kind allowed this includes cans. If any one knows if this has changed please post.

Like I said in the past, depending where the DNR are in Wisconsin or the U.P.,they are getting fussy about modified exhausts. Not saying you shouldn't modify exhaust, just be ready to deal with the consequenses if you get caught!

this discussion imo is all common sence...
for example, many "townies" like to put loud exhaust on their trucks, and when their messing around on the corn field their ok...but when they come in to town to grab a beer, whammy, they get pulled over by the cops for loud pipes.
its all a matter of perception. if it sounds loud, you will draw attention. if its not, they'll let you go.
the au train trail that runs from au train (basically) to marquette has a speed limit, and cops frequently pull ppl over and check their sleds, and issue tickets. a smart rider would avoid this area if they've got pipes b/c it pi$$es of the residents. but instead they drive right thru KNOWING there is a cop waiting around the corner...then they b|tch they got a ticket.

whay if iu keep my stock pipe , and drill holes in the bottom of it (i dont think they would make you take the pipes off to look for holes,) its still a stock pipe
in cars and trucks loup pipes are nice and generally not ticketed, its just when the dumba55es wamp on it from a dead stop at midnight then its ticket time, if a sled had gears to keep the rpms down(like cars and trucks) i think it would be OK because you are not going 8000rpm for 5 miles (well you could be but you dont need to)
the law needs to ticket ricers and those damn "screws ouncing in a coffie can" exhuasts
