Hello everyone. My father has a 1996 Yamaha vmax 600 and a few weeks ago he said the clutch felt like it wasnt shifting well so we tore into it and found that the spider had mushroomed out and the weights weren't touching the rollers. So we ditched that clutch. Now we have a clutch from an arctic cat 700 which has about the right amount of weights in it. Now the problem is that the sled runs 6500-7000 RPMs at about 40 MPH. Also it tops out at about 65 MPH at about 7500 RPMs. One thing i did do was try the spare belt and with the spare i cannot even start the engine because the belt is so tight. Im really not sure what is going on with it. We think that it could possibly be the wrong belt that is too tight and not allowing the primary clutch to fully engage. We would really like to figure it out. Sorry for the long post. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Yeah we thought of getting a different clutch but also know that the arctic cat clutch that is on it now is alot smoother than the original clutch ever was. We really want to use the arctic cat clutch. Just cant figure out why it's revving high and why the belt doesn't fit.
The only reason we don't want to get another cultch is 1-cost and 2- it's already gone through 2 Yamaha clutches. With the arctic cat clutch on it, it has a ton more power. At this point i really would like to know if running at 6500-7000 RPMs constantly will hurt the engine. Thanks
The clutch does engage at about 4000 RPMs. Not sure how to set belt deflection. Also today i adjusted the secondary spring to the lowest setting and it decreased the RPMs at 40 MPH by about 1000. So we made improvement. Thanks for the help
