I think my back would be pretty sore without it. My sled has it and I actually use it more than I thought I would. If its not much more I would say its deffinatly worth it.

In my opinion it depends on how much the machine weighs, and how much you like lifting. I have a beast of a touring sled, which weighs more than some 900s even though its a 500. I had to ride a couple days without reverse on that thing last year and I don't think I would want to own that machine if it didn't have reverse. Without it you're swinging the back end of the machine around most of the time if you need to turn the machine around.

Then again, my brother has a Tundra, which weighs under 400 pounds. No reverse, and it's quite unnecessary. The front end of it is lighter than my sled's back end. You could pick the machine up in the air with two people. So a lack of reverse on that machine is no big deal. So basically it depends on the machine and what kind of lifting you're willing to do on a regular basis. But having owned only machines with reverse, it is kind of hard to imagine having to get off the machine all the time instead of pulling that handy lever. Given the choice between two similar sleds, one with reverse and the other without, I would definitly opt for reverse. Is it essential? No.

Even if I had reverse, I would only use it to get off the trailer. I try not to get myself into situations where I can't turn around. I also can throw my sled around pretty easily. So to me, its not. Theres obviously no right or wrong answer, its all up to you.

i dont think its necessary, but it is a nice feature...

my sled does not have reverse, and i dont think id really ever use it. when i do pull it off the trailer, it comes off really easy.

my dad has a touring (2 up) and it weighs a bit more than mine. it does come in handy when he runs off the trail in to chest deep snow, and its easier to drive out in reverse than digging and turning.

but for example, its nice when you need to turn around in tight areas and dont wanna get off to lift the front, and schooch the back around...

My sled has it and you really dont know what your missing til you have it. i park my sled in the garage everytime after ridding. so easy to get it out for the next ride. on the trail you will find yourself using it alot also. only downfall to it is the weight, but hey 50 pounds at most? and it does the work of lifting my 500 pound sled. seems worth it to me.

Without a doubt - the most necessary feature you can get! You won't ever know how nice it is until you ride a sled with reverse. Then, once you do - you'll never want to ride one without it!

Two of my three sleds have reverse. The one without reverse is a 1980 Jag, which weighs just over 300 lbs. No such thing as reverse back then, and at 300 lbs, it's pretty easy to move around myself. Put one of my girls on it though, and **I'm** the one stopping to move it for them! You see, 300 lbs is a little much for a 15 or 16 year-old female.

In short: Get Reverse!!! You will never, ever, regret it!

If you have a choice, get it. I get a chuckle when guys in our group have to get off their sleds and swing their skids around...I just flip the lever and back up. I'm not old or lazy....just smart.

My sled does not have reverse. My wife's sled does. When I ride her's and use the reverse, I keep saying to myself that my next sled will have reverse. I like the added option.

I've always had reverse and wouldn't be without it.
I'm no youngster and I don't have the greatest back so I don't want to do all that sluggin, also with my new Vector it's a must.

I don't think reverse adds more than 5 or 10 pounds to the sled.

It is great coming off a trailer or backing up on hardpack, but dont think it will back up on powder,or if your stuck, cause it wont. But it will dig ya into a deeper hole,if your into weight lifting

You can add it. I'd check with the dealer to see if it will go on that particular sled. They're running a couple hundred or so on eBay. Saw a few new kits listed recently.

I've been sledding for 5 years now, and never had reverse until I installed the kit myself about 2 months ago.

I've used it several times so far and it's already paid for itself. Additionally, if/when you go to trade or sell your sled, just having reverse makes it worth more, and appeals to more people. It increases the value and functionality of the machine.

It only added about 5 pounds to the chaincase.

Get it, you won't regret it. It will pay for itself over and over.

BTW, I bought a new kit from my dealer because I could not find the correct one on eBay. I had to pay about $350 for the kit.

If you don`t have reverse, lift some weights and just drag it
