Newbie question

Hi everyone.
I just bought my first slead today! It is an early 80s Yamaha 440 SS. It runs good, has a nice track, and about 2000 miles, a little rough around the edges, but thats ok (I am mechanicaly inclined). And was $300. It seemed like a cheap way to get into the sport! Pics to follow when its light out.

Anyway, my question is how much snow do I need to ride? Its snowing now and they say we should get 2-4".

Thanks.
Jim

Not sure where you are, but we would kill for 2 - 4 right now! We got 0.....

You can ride on a couple of inches (some ride on none!), just remember if you don't have a good base of at least 4 - 6 you don't have much to ride on and you can really beat your sled. And if you start trail riding watch for open water if it hasn't been cold.

I broke a ski in half messing around on an old John deere cyclone this past weekend with no snow. Very common when you ride an old sled in low snow, stress points will become breaking points.
