hi, my elan has a mikuni carb. I have been getting my sled ready to go after a few years of limited use. I replaced gas, changed some gas line hoses, took apart and cleaned fuel pump. Engine runs, but I needed to push primer every so often when idling to keep running. I took off carb and put in cleaner bath. I then noticed that the rubber mounting bracket onto engine was cracked. This has happened before and I keep a spare, I put the new one on thinking that this is the problem sucking in air. I blew out the carb without total disassembly and put back together. Runs better and I got it to idle better without having to push primer. But, gas is spurting out of a machined hole in the carb above the intake? If I rev up the engine it stops spurting, this is putting quite a bit of gas spilling onto skidoo floor. If this a relief hole? or has a hole worn through into the carb allowing gas to escape? Any ideas??
I will take apart carb, but this was happening before I removed carb as well. I just didn't notice it so much because it would idle. Once I replaced the engine-carb mount, I got the engine idling better and therefore more spitting of gas to the outside.
Any other ideas??
Hey kccats,
You were right, I replaced the needle and seat and the jets. Now runs nice and no more spitting gas. I was told at the parts shop that the hole where the gas was coming out was some kind of atmospheric pressure port. I guess with too much gas going in to carb, it has to blow out somewhere.
Anyway, I'm putt-putting again on the elan.
