Yeah my dad and I are thinking about going this year, we'll see how the weather. They have a tip of town website and it gives you the list of events that are going on for both weekends. As of right now I read a report that the lake has anywhere from 6 to 12 in. of ice with some water spots toward the middle. The nice thing about Houghton Lake is it is shallow. I don't think they have much snow though, report said only about an inch on the lake. As far as trails go for that area, I wouldn't expect them to be that great unless they get some more snow. Does anyone know if you can get on some trails directly from the lake? My dad hasn't been there in a long time, I think the late 70's but even back then he said it was a blast. Just seeing all the sleds is an amazing sight. And of course the BEER TENT! I heard they were going to offer some new things this year that they haven't offered before, either way I'm sure it will be a good time. Lets hope for cold weather and some snow. If the weather is good, we will be there for sure.

I've been there about 5 times in the last 8 yrs. Great to go partying but it is hit and miss with snow every year. A couple of times we never even opened our trailers. Lots of beer though!!!

That's funny as all hell. I was there to during that time. Prolly partying with your dad. Yea, they have a fricken beer tent. You better believe it! If he said it was a good time, he was exagerating. It's a fricken blow out man! Limberlost bar!!! Party time. If I told you the stories now, this thread would go on for day's! He never told you or took you to tip up town? Man you should follow his foot steps. The weather has been iffy the last few year's. But they still find a way to party!

I was there on our typical trip we took every year, (in the past) and we had a winter thaw. The lake was water, and the cabin we rented had 6 in. of water in it. We had to leave. They gave us our money back. Tip up town is known for a good/party time. When I was in my roaring 20's, I wouldn't miss it ever! Had alot of good times there for sure! But things alway's change. Mouse calls me slow now. I wonder if he could drink me under the table some night over a good game of ucher.
OH forgot to mention, YES they have a beer TENT!!!

the bad side...
I'm only 2 hours from tip-town will never go myself.... after watching a guy get t-boned on his sled and die it was enough for me. all these parties and beer tents translate to drunks on sleds everywhere. im not sayin you guys drink and ride but most do. this guy was simply driving out to his shanty to do some fishing when about 20 sleds making there laps didnt see him runnin across to their path.... i also put my sled in the lake my first year up there because of a poorly marked open spot that had been chainsawed open by the local power company repair some sort of line near shore... i dont blame 'em cause your suppose to be aware of your surroundings at all times but anyways. just way to many drunks on sleds and first timers on the trails its accidents waiting to happen and they do every year. they are supposedly trying to change this image with more family oriented events but it will never change.. my .02 cents

When I say beer tent and party, I mean after the sledding is done. Not while sledding. I don't get mixed up in that. When I went there back in my roaring 20's, I didn't go to sled, I went to party and have a good time. Drunks on sleds are wrong. We all know that.
