Inacurate speedo
My friend got a radar gun for christmas so we had a little fun with it last weekend. It was a great reminder of why to never trust your speedo! My ZR read 74 on the speedo and did 67 on the gun. His new 900 fusion did a little better, 79 speedo and 74 actual. My father in laws 04 F7 did the best at 84 speedo and 83 on the gun. It wasn't the best test course, not totally hardpacked and a short run, but still a fun toy to play with.

even on motorcycles there not accurate.. old models took the reading from the front wheel and now they do it from they back wheel.. so if you remove a tooth on a sprocket ( like mine) u lose 7-8% of allready not good reading.

yeah they do.. like theres a pick up coil on the shaft behind the front sprocket .. no more speedo cables.. just 3 wires for the sensor ( 2 for power 1 for signal to ECU)
my 1992 gsxr 1127 had a real speedo cable to the front wheel..
it' not a bad thing.. it's just sucks when you play with gearing ratios on the sprockets.. and the mileage goes up faster :P.. no my next chain i might put back the original gearing.. it's pulls better for revs faster on cruising speeds... err almost cruising speeds..

heheh yeah, but either way, a race bike is way to fast in ANY gear so... even with a speedo youd' be siting with me and you'd think were going at 90-100 MPH, and in real is more like over 120..
you don't see the speed, you don't feel it. so you have to follow traffic .. sometimes
in first gear i can reach 65 MPH.. and thats with the wheel up..
not a vehicule to put in unexperienced hands... the first times it scared the sh*t out of me... sometimes it still does.
With strength comes limits..

yea, this kid from school sold his 13 sec. honda to buy an R1.i think this is the first road bike he has ever had. he said that he can take first gear to 100. i think that he is gonna end up hitting a stop sign at around 120..... within the next year.

you don't buy an R1 as a first bike.. ever!!
i started out with a 1984 honda CB650 SC and i must say that i did 0- 60 in 4 seconds.. which is ALOT more than the majority of sports cars out there.
it topped out at 120 but got there quick enough... a first it was scary as hell.. at the end i could keep it a WOT and **** ALL the gears.. thats why i bought my gixxer 1127.. it was faster than my zx9 coze of the mods... stage 3 dynotjet kit, kn filter pods, and a DYNA 2000 ignition box with 5 more teeth on the rear sprocket and still it could lift itself on a wheelie just by flooring it.. in 1st and second gear.. and weighted a whoping 525 LBS... but no handling.. i always was respectful torward it, as it never had respect for me...in turns or on a straight away, it could start a tank slap if i was to be a bit too agressive with it...i sold it coze it was unrliable and i was always mangling in the carbs.. that where i learn the wizardries of carbs too.. wasn't a good bike..but it was cute for it's era...
heres a pic of it
then i bought my zx9 which is ALOT more docile, but never the less, VERY poweful, the trick is that it has 125 pounds less to carry and the handling is simply incredible.
but i don't use it close to it full potential.. i rather have all my body parts intact..or better yet being alive.
i can understand your guy changing from a 13 second car to a 10 second bike.. it a short cut that cost alot less to end up with the same stuff.. although having a 11- 12 second car would be fun.. as a daily driver..
the funniest thing is when guys come up to you at a traffic light and "try" you out and expect to win... some may.. but they got alot of $$ under there hood

That's like some kid going out and buying a mach z as his first sled. I'd stay away from him on the roads.

and it should.
if someone was to take my bike, start it shift it in first and let go the clutch real slow until completely off of it, then floor it and count to 3 it would be on his back on the asphalt with a 380 LBS on him...
it surprises me still when sometime i go to pass a car and floor and the front wheel goes off the ground a few inches.. thats a 40- 50 MPH.. it takes me by suprise most of the time.. and then i let it go and take a deep breath.. i let go.. thats why im still here.. sadly enough i've seen too many who never let go... once in a ditch at 100 MPH they DO let go...
but like the statistics say, 90% of the accident happen below 50 MPH and in city driving.. like being cu off by a granny who didn't see you... no offense to the grannies.. i have one

the kid that bought the r1 didnt sell his hatch back to get the bike. he still has it. u could probably find it on ebay if u looked tho. yea, its his first bike and its one of the fastest u can buy, but hes no beginner. recently sold his f7 and crf 450. im not justifying the purchase, just sayin hes not a newbie when it comes to power sports.

i thought he sold the hatch? there is a bit of differance between a crf 450 and an R1, i'm not saying he should have bought a 250 but maybe like a 600. i still think hes gonna hit a stop sign. this kid is stupid!! on a wet day, the 1st or second day he had the bike he had it to 140!!!

even if he drove fast his F7 or his CRF it's still woulnd be the same as drving a R1 up to 140 MPH and taking a curve....
at 60 MPH an hour on gravel with a CRF you CAN get out alive.. at 90 MPH on snow.. you can too.. but at 100+ MPH on asphalt with cars that dont see you ( they never do) it's a whole other game...
i can't count on both my fingers and toes how many times i was cut by a car last summer.. you have to drive with eyes alla round your head.. now imagine doing that and driving like a maniac with an R1 on a wheelie.... like BRPforlife said, he's gonna end up kissing a stop sign within the year..
