About three years ago, I was riding through a field on my then Z570. It was one of those days when everything blends together and you can't tell what's a bump and what's flat. Apparently there was a "bump" in between two of the fields i was riding in. I hit the "bump" at about 70.... the person behind me said all he saw was a big cloud of powder, and then me come out of the top of it on my sled and pointing straight up in the air. Needless to say, I fell off my sled so it didn't keep tilting back and land on me. The sled landed straight up... resulted in a bent rear axel, popped bogey wheel, broken rear bumper, and a wrinkled tunnel... then I rode it home... which proceeded to tear up the track... After all that we had it fixed the next week, and at the end of the season we traded it in. Also, someone else said that they towed a trailer and forgot to put the pin in, only to find it was still on the bumper when they stopped... the same thing happened to my dad and I... it was kinda wierd

When I went to put my sled onto my trailer it wouldn't hook up, so i gave it alot of throttle and then it hooked. It shot right up the trailer and almost landed in the back of my truck. Nothing a new tailgate couldn't fix.

It seems that's happening to a lot of people.

I was riding my sled in a field near my house, and I turn around corner and let her rip. Well, halfway through the field there is a hole about a foot deep, by 2 feet wide. Well of course the snow covered this up nicely, and I hit it going full out, on the suspension that we had JUST re-welded. I don't think it broke anything, but when that snowmobile hit the far edge and bounced back up I was sitting on the seat and it was quite painful.

Not the most embarrassing way to need to buy someone a windshield. A couple years ago a group of us were going ice fishing for the day, and I was riding on the back of someone's machine. Somebody turned left for whatever reason and we T-boned 'em. Rolled both the machines. Fortunatly nobody was hurt and the only damage was a windshield.

Here's one from the weekend.

My friend who has multiple speeding tickets and recently lost his lisence for hitting a 12 year old girl while driving through a crosswalk, came up north with us for a weekend of sledding. He doesn't have a license which makes it illegal for him to ride on trails. But it wasn't my sled and it was none of my business. He was riding my friends dad's back-up sled which is a 1998 polaris indy trail. My friend and I are a little quicker because we're much more experienced, so we head out and we get to the first intersection about 5 minutes later. So we wait for him, and we wait, and we wait. After a couple of minutes we turn around and head back we find him riding towards us and we had no idea what took him so long. My friend spots a huge dent in the hood followed by tree shaped dent in the right control arm, shock, spring, and steering linkage. The trailing arm for the front suspension had also bent and pushed the tunnel back so it had a huge ripple in it.

So after all the yelling is done, I think to myself that I am never going to let anyone ever drive any of my snowmobiles ever again!!!! EVER!!!!! If that had been my machine he would've needed to be air-lifted out of the trail for a broken tail bone after my boot had been shoved up his a$$.

P.S. - This was the same guy who sunk my sled in that swamp, which I explained a couple posts back in this same thread!

My worse thing was I was loading the sled onto the truck off a snowbank, and I meant to hit the brake because i was walking with it, but instead hit the throttle and friggen the skis went under the tailgate and slammed into the bumper, but thankfully a week later, my brother got into a car accident , someone slammed into the same bumper, and there crash hit the same spot in the bumper, and their insurance paid for it

Not having much experience riding (less than 50 miles). I went up to the UP with 6 friends who all have been riding for years. One friend who wasn't going rented me his sled(06 F-5). Feeling a little more confident after a full day of riding I thought I would try and keep up with them instead of them always waiting for me at every stop or junction. With that said I was coming up to a hard right turn and took it to wide. There were two sleds coming in the same corner staying on the correct side. I shot the corner hard left hit he burm, the sled and I went air born. With the unexpected jolt from the jump I hit the gas. I was able to hit the brakes and landed about 50' from the corner and about 3" from a nice 20" tree. My buddies finally came back to help me dig out, which took about 15 min's. The rest of the trip they waited for me at the stops. And as soon as I got back to the hotel I called my insurance company to add the sled to my coverage.

You're lucky you didn't hit that tree! Those things can do some damage!

Well lets see this year I smoked a big ole' tree. The most recent thing was I spilled a bunch of gas while filling up on the trailer. I soaked it all off my sled, but didn't even think of the puddle UNDER it. I started the sled up to get her warm, and turned my back to it. I heard something that sounded a lot liek a back fire, turned around and my sled was engulfed in flames I thought it was screwed for sure, so I just focused on getting my dads sled off (which I did ) To make matters worse, my brother decided to throw water on the gasoline fire Once I saved my dads sled, I pulled mine off. It had zero damage. The trailer was what was actually buring, and I guess it didn't get hot enough to burn the plastic. You could even touch the trailer where the fire had been and it didn't even feel warm. Now I'm a little more careful around trees and gas

Here is one I just figured out. It's bad enough I started this thread with a bone headed move, but here is my 2nd of the season:

I bought a new helmet and used it for last season and the little riding of this season. While looking close at the clear face shield, i saw a defect (bubble/wrinkle) on the inside lense. I used my finger nail to touch it and it turned out that I never took of the plastic protective sheeting off. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Over 300 mile of riding.

My kid hit a 8" tree at less than 10 MPH last season. It was over $100 in parts. Luckily, the hood didn't get damaged, but the hinge & bumper needed replacing, and the bulkhead had to be straightened. You don't have to be moving very fast... and they STOP ya quick!

I was riding my first season last year and one of my dads friends was behind me with the big ZR800. So I was nervous because he likes to pass you on the trail. So I looked behind me for him(I had no Mirrors) and then looked back ahead-,but too late, I hit into at tree at 20mph.
