I get this ringing in my ear everytime I click on this thread.

Ok ok, the oil cap thing might have been my biggest bonehead thing I have done with a snowmobile.

Well, this one is not about me, but I let my friend ride my ZR700 one year. (I was on my old XLT600.) We were doing laps in a hilly hay field when all of a sudden the ZR700 stopped in it's tracks and threw him over the handlebars. We started the engine but it would not move. The engine bay stunk like something was burning. The brakes were sizzling. He had applied the parking brake at one point and never took it off! He made several laps before it finally seized.

I asked him in my pissed off/joking tone,

"Did ya NOTICE that it MAY have been a LITTLE hard to get moving??!?!?!"

Boy did those brake parts stay hot for some time.

Ok my jacka$$ed move was back in November. We had just gottin our first dumping of snow. I got my sled out of the barn, and I ran it up my road. I was comin back, and was approaching my driveway alittle fast. I applied my brake, and went into a sideways slide. The dink that lives across the street from me had blown his snow into the road. I hit the snow while sideways, and rolled the sled on the side. It ripped my windshield off, and put a scratch on my hood. I was bumbed out that I scratched my sled, but IRS said it just adds character to it. Now I look at that scratch everytime I go out and ride. It reminds me to not ride like a jacka$$

This didn't happen to me but I was there. There was 5 of us riding and one of my buddys got stuck so one of my buddys run over to help him out he picks up the back of the sled to try and help out and when he did the other guy nailed it and when he did the guy pushing fell. Well when he fell his head was about 1 foot away from the track he had his visor open and filled his whole helment with snow. I have never in my life seen something as funny as that.

My brother ran out of oil like 15 miles into the bush. He walked for hours and was about to fall over and die when a group of Americans rode by and gave him a ride into town, pizza, towed his sled out of the bush, and picked up his helmet for him along the way. He broke down a bit after 3:00, and got picked up around 7:00 I think. It was not a well traveled area, and without these guys he probably would have died.

We went to parry sound this weekend, and the lakes were frozen but we came up to a swamp with very thin ice, so me and another experienced guy went over no problem, but the amateur riding MY back up sled went right through the ice, the ski's were up on the ice but the back was seat deep in water. We finally got it out and it happened again, so after being crotch deep in frigid swamp water for 10 minutes we finally got out and went home, to dry out our boots. Moral of the story!!! NEVER let anyone borrow your sled!!!

So what exactly did the amateur do to get your sled sunk? Just didn't pin it or something?

Yeah he went way to slow. And he and his girlfriend are also pretty heavy set (they were both on the sled).

I thought one of the big 'rules' of sledding was "Never Loan Anyone Your Sled"?

This is probably one of the reasons why. LOL.

bonehead move

last week I was backing my 600HO of the tilting clamshell trailer and only slid one the gas lift cylinder stops down as the rt one was froze up on the cylinder. I gassed it and as the trailer tilted the top started coming down hit the stop on the left cylinder which torqued the top to the right bending the shaft 90 degrees which allowed the clamshell too to slam down on the windshield of my sled. Narrowly missing my hands on the bar's.
I felt pretty stupid!
