Hey guys, i've seen a couple guys wondering how to put LEDs on their sleds, how to power them, ect, so i thought i'd share what i've done, and kind of make a little "how-to" of it. Hope it helps!

i'm going to make it a couple posts long, so stick with me lol
also, the pics might be kinda big, so just keep going if you think its done haha

The lights are powered by either the engine, or by a battery that i installed
The engine power is spliced off the headlight power, but more to come about that later.

First off, its a 2002 Polaris 600 Edge X with yellow LED pods
i bought the pods off of creativelightings.com
LED Pod Lights - Auto, Motorcycle, boat, truck, trailer, RV, RC Hobby, and so much more. Expect only the Highest quality LED Pod Lights.

they're the 4-LED oval pods, and the color is bright yellow

I have 4 Pods under each running board (4 each side, 8 total on rear)
2 pods in each ski well (2 on each side, 4 total)
1 pod in front of each foot well (1 each side, 2 total)
2 pods facing up in the engine compartment
1 pod mounted on the hood facing forward so the grills are lit up
for a grand total of 17 lights haha
they draw about 1/3 watt each, so i have 5 2/3 watts draw

i'll start with the end for a second lol
here's what the finished product looks like

doing pre-winter tune on '82 Yamaha Excel, which is in relatively great shape, noticed the seat board was soft, so removed the seat to see a few ants.
today I went a bit deeper and oh my gosh... they have totally infested this thing. now keep in mind I used to do commercial pest control (before moving on to wildlife damage control) and have seen few cases this severe and this is after treating the invaders once already. check out those tunnels and cavities they've created.
check out these pics of the seat foam.

now the question is, where can I 1) find a new seat for this sled (original design or one that would fit) 2) find new foam
I wouldn't mind putting another that would just fit, really just looking for function, aesthetics come second.

here is what i use when installing LEDs. decide how many you want, or of what color/brightness, etc... then go to this page, and you can calculate everything you could possibly dream of that has to do with LED connections and resistors.
MetkuMods - Because you love your hardware!

this is a page that describes how the leds work when hooked up in different ways, and tells you how to hook them up
LED Circuitry tutorial: how to hook up LEDs.

just some basic info for everyone who is looking at installing some LEDs easily. i always buy mine at radio shack. buy a simple switch too while you're there!

Hey guys, on my sled, i have a bunch of LED lights for underglow effect, and they're hard wired into the sled's electrical system, since i didn't have a battery in it. Today, i just put in a small battery so i can run the lights without the engine running, but i was wondering if i kept the battery wired in while the sled's running, will it cause the battery to get "overcharged" from the output of the stator?
If it would, i was going to put a switch in line so that i can "shut off" the battery, and isolate it from the system.
any thoughts?

I have a 85-89 Indy 500. The guy I bought the sled from said he broke the hood while replacing the piston. Now there's a Indy 400 hood on there, but it doesn't quite seat right. Is there any difference in hood size between the 2, and is there a method of adjusting the hood to have it sit better? It seems that it sits back too far (toward the driver). The keys/choke are burried in about 1-2", but the hood seems to sit back about 1-2" as well. Is there a way to adjust this?

Thanks,
