1980 Scorpion Whip 440 - Walbro WF Carb Issue

Hi All,

My 1980 Scorpion Whip 440 Wlabro carb is givng me a hard time (again). The idle mixture screw on the Walbro carb needs to be turned out at least 3 to 4 turns for the sles to stay running smoothly at idle. The idle speed also needs to be set high at 3K RPM. Then when you're ridng it will be going along fine and then she starts to die until you feather the throlte and then she runs fine again for a few more minutes until you need to feathe the gas again. Seems to happen more when going up or downhill. The sled also acts like ti wants to stall when the sled is stopped quickly. I pulled out the fuel pickup tube under the fuel pump and cleaned the 3 holes in the tube and the 2 air bleed ports that are under the fule pump, but the problem remains. Anyone have any idea where the carb may be blocked up?

Thanks... Scorp80

P.S. Tank was cleaned and filled with new gas mixed at 40:1

Are you sure that it's a carb problem and not a clutch problem.

I'm 99% sure it’s a carb issue. The fact that the idle mixture screw needs be turned out so far that the idle needs to be raised to between 3000 or 3400 to stay running pretty much tells me it’s some type of fuel a fuel issue. The whole thing about the engine almost dying when I come to a sudden stop and the engine sounding like its running out of fuel when heading up or down hill is making me think the needle may be sticking closed float and that the main jet may be partially clogged. Do you think that would cause the symptoms I'm seeing?
