99' Polaris indy 500 won't run

Not sure if this is the correct spot for this thread or not but,,

Alright so i finally decided to get into snowmobiling and already having problems. I bought a 1999 Polaris indy 500 over the summer and after cleaning the carbs and changing the in tank fuel line it was running. Now after a little lite riding it quit and doesn't seem to want to start or run.
The only way to get it to start is to put a little bit of pre-mix down into the cylinder. Even then it will only run for a second then it dies, also tried filling the carb bowls and then start it, even then it only runs for a minute or two then dies. When i take the bowl back off it's empty. Thought it was a fuel issue so took the fuel lines off the carbs and ran them into a bottle and seems to be lots of fuel coming out of the lines.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Based on what you are saying, sounds like your float is not working correctly. Might be stuck or simply not working. If you are burning all the fuel in the bowl, but not being replaced that is the first thing I would check. The float will open or close a valve that will let fuel in depending on how much fuel there is. If there is no fuel the float valve should be completely open.

If your seat needles were stuck, I would presume that your carbs sat with fuel in them and got varnished pretty well. What you might want to do is dump some seafoam into your gas tank (throw in about 3 or 4 ounces into a half tank) and run the sled for a few minutes (drive it around the yard or something) so that it mixes with the fuel and then gets into the carbs.

Let it sit overnight / 24 hours and then just run it. You could dump the rest of the can in for your next fill up and just run it through. I certainly don't advocate for not cleaning carbs completely, but I've found that SeaFoam does a great job of getting that last little bit of gunk out of there.

I had an issue this fall with my wood splitter and just the other day with my little snowthrower (both Honda four-stroke motors) where they would not run correctly unless the choke was on. I dumped a few ounces of SeaFoam into the tanks and ran them with the choke on. By the time half the tank was gone, the issue was too. They both run perfectly again.

I add it to the fuel in my sleds at the start of the season as well.

suggest the same. They were stuck for a reason! Seafoam works great. Also suggest at the end of the season you shut the gas off and run it until there is no gas in the carbs. It will stall at that point.

Yep. I don't believe you get it completely empty, but it's close. Alternatively, I've read about people replacing the plugs on the bottom of the trap lines and building a "drain" that they can empty the carbs whenever they need to.

Ive heard the same. Ive thought about doing this but i decided theres more important things i can do. If you want it all out take the drain nut off the bottom of the carb bowl. Running it out is good enough for me. You may gain a little bit of gunk in the bowl but at least it wont gunk up your jets/needle seats
