airbox help
hey guys i got a 98 polaris indy with a 2002 arctic cat 550 motor in it. it doesnt have an airbox or pod filters right now. do i need to put one of those on? this might sound like a really stupid question sorry, but i need to know. it runs fine without them. and if i need to put one of them on id put pod filters. how much would i need to rejet the carb? and how do i do that? thanks!

No you don't need to but if dirt or snow gets into the carbs than it could make the engine go bad

The 550 is a piston port motor and YES you need to make or atleast rework the existing air box!
The piston port will Spit gas!

It is simple, Remember the air box is Behind the Carbs and a bit of an ir leak is Not Biggie! I would rework the Pollaris air box and use like a 2" fernco (plumbing rubber coupling) or what ever fits the back of the carb and addapt it to the air box! Or start from scratch with just some pieces of plastic , silicone, wood strips or pop rivits ans L brackets?

Find the correct one on eBay. Why risk screwing up the motor by ingesting snow, etc?

you will suck in dirt/snow/belt dust. not worth blowing your engine. yes it will run just fine without them until you blow your motor

You should be able to make an OEM box match up to the carbs.
