I use Polaris chaincase fluid. Some guys use ATF, which works fine. I wouldn't use thicker oils because the oil can't get in between the chain links as easily. It takes about 9 oz.

I'm assuming a non-reverse chaincase... if so, consider draining the oil and then removing the cover. You will find a lot of junk built up in the nooks and crannies that you can access and clean out. There's a drain plug on the bottom of the chaincase to drain. Some times it's covered with dirt and can't be seen. You shouldn't need a new seal when you remove the cover.

Welcome to the forum!

Cool thNks 4 the helpa

I think I bought maxima chain fluid or sumthing like that last year just haven't got to it, have to dig it out and check it wasn't cheap, it was like 18 a qrt. I looked for a drain plug but didn't think i seen one, maybe it was dirty, I'll check aging tomaro, if not no biggie.. I think i would rather open the case to check things out since its prob never been open, maybe replace sum stuff just to make things beter than they were.. and to see what shape things are in.. thanks for the help, if I have any questions I will be back here since this place is beter than any parts store.. LOL

If you want to make less mess, tip the sled on it's side, chaincase side up. Remove the cover, then use a suction gun or turkey baster (don't let the wife find out!) to suck out the old fluid. No mess
