Question motor problems

i have a 1981 jag...... it starts up and runs i let it warm up a bit then lifted back and then hit the gas... it started to spit and pop and backfire.... what is wrong with it?????

start by changing the plug, a new one.

plugs should be checked first off, like fender said, secondly, how old is the gas thats runnin through the engine?

Sounds like the main jet may have some dirt in it , When you open the throttle it goes lean
