john deere sprintfire electrical

Hello to all......

I'm new to the site and need some JD assistance. I wrecked my JD Sprintfire and decided to throw the engine into my Honda Odyssey.

The engine is the 340 liquid cooled Kaw engine with a comet 102c clutch.

Here's my problems.....
A) How would I hook up a battery to the stock JD wiring system, everything is there but it DID NOT have a battery in the sled.

B) I'm running a 12v DC cooling fan on the radiator from an ATV. Do I need anything in line to protect the system, other than a low amp fuse, or can I tap into any 12v DC wire, like the hot wire to lighting switch? One guy said I should have a relay in the line for the fan but it only draws something like 3-5 amps.

I've been informed that I could burn out the CDI or stator if this is not done right.....I don't want to toast the stator, that's for sure!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You need a regulator/rectifier to convert the ac output of the light coil to dc to charge the battery.
A relay is recommended to ease the start up load on the battery/charging system.
Run the fan through a relay to the battery. One side will be connected to the battery and the other side connected to the temp sensor.

wiring

Thanks for the reply...

First off, I do have the complete Sprintfire wiring harness on the engine just as it came out of the sled, so every electrical part is there and hooked up as was factory.

My engine has a small black box that wires from the stator go into and a yellow wire comes out that travels to the lights. I was tols this was the regulator/rectifier. This box also has a ground wire on it as well.

Furthermore, I looked at my headlight bulb and it is a 12v DC unit, so this system has to already have the reg/rect in it, I would think.

So, what can I do with this set-up? I was thinking of fusing the lead to the battery (the yellow wire discussed above) with a 10 amp fuse then connect the yellow wire to the + lead. Then I would think I could run off the battery to my lights and fan, all with relays (size of relay unknown) of course....Sound right to you?????

Thanks!!!!!

welcome abord!!!!

a regulator keeps the voltage under 14volts,box with yellow wire,
a rectifier converts voltage form ac to dc current.
hope u enjoy your project!!!

if ur deere has elect start, it will have a rectifier.
if not, it must be added for your fan operation.

Welcome to the Snow Show!
Yep with No electric start no Rectifire. The regulator would be a square box. The rectifire has plates and cooling fins?
