Air Silencer

I am fixing up an older ski-doo, 76 440 T'NT, and I keep seeing warnings about the neccessity of the air silencer. Is this a load of crap or is there a reason?

Air silencer, is that the same as silencer. In that case YES it's very important. The pipe will reflect unignited fuel back in to the cylinder(s) and wether that should work there must be a precise resistans in the pipe, if you remove the silencer it will not work properly and it will sound terrible. The exhaust system is one of the most important things in a two stroke engine.

air silencer and silencer are completely different things. you are right about the silencer, but the air silencer will also be needed being that thats where the air comes from for your carbs.
