Red face Have to ask again.......

I could have sworn I asked this already but I can't find it, here we go:
Liquid or Fan cooled engines?

Now I have a fan cooled engine in my sled and I have never had it over heat (atleast I don't think its ever gotten too hot, how can you tell?). Since mine is only a 339cc I guess it would have less overheating problems then a larger engine? Now I hear of liquid cooled engines overheating all the time, including ours. So, would a 550cc engine be like my 339cc or would it over heat more then a liquid cooled engine of the same size? I guess I just can't figure out why a Liquid cooled engine is so much better, when ive never had problems with my fan cooled.....

Liquid cooled motors have a cooler and more stable temp. Engine works better at normal operating temp. 180 degree water temp. Compare them on a 35 degree or 45 degree day for that matter.

I fan cooled 550 will put out considerably more heat than a 340 fan. I would advise you go with a liquid cooled motor for anything over 500 cc unless the whether is always 20 degrees or lower.

Liquid cooled sleds usually get around 30 - 40 % more horsepower than a similar stock fan. This, like SDLawn said... you can build the liquid cooled engines to tigher tolerances becuase they are made to run at a stable temperature, whereas with fan cooled sleds you need to have lower tolerances becuase they operate in a broader engine temperature range.
